Make It Own Pullip Review

Postby SillyLilPuppet » Wed Mar 12, 2014 11:55 pm

Alright so I got one of these. Not many pics right now because its late, I've been out on the salon floor all day, and Googs is snoring already.

The basics: Bought on Saturday, shipped on Monday, arrived today (Wednesday). Got it from Pullipstyle for $40 including shipping. Came in a heavy duty huge manila envelope with thick bubble wrap, no damage or anything. She's pretty securely packaged in there, everything in neat little bags. Only issues really is that the bag with the screws had a tiny hole in it (which seems like it happens to everyone, they have bad bags I guess?) and that her lashes are squished (which I'm gonna use fancy ones anyway).

What you're getting is a completely blank mostly unassembled Pullip (or Dal, Byul, Taeyang). No wig, no paint, no clothes, the eye chips are even clear and unpainted. You get one type 4 body, the two halves of the head, eye chips, lashes, the eye mechanism and eyelids (terrifying), lashes, and a very cute box with instructions printed on the back. I'd assume, since it has a window to show color, that if these sell well they'll do limited runs of color choices like Obitsu does with the marrone.

Sort of hard to see but in upper right is her lashes and the clear eye chips. They're pretty well smushed but are pretty cheap looking lashes to begin with, so customizers might already be planning to put in their own anyway. The weird flesh colored things below it are her eyelid mechanism. Its kind of daunting to assemble. Lots of tiny springs.

I'm still deciding what I want to do with her. Thinking of a purple or teal color scheme with ridiculous sparkly anime eyes using holographic paper for extra sparkle.

Any questions?

Thank you! I've only seen photos of the front of the box.
I'm mostly on Tumblr now.

There was a review of the Dal version in FDQ a few months ago that had a quick run down of them and showed the inside, which is why I even found out about them. Figured something more detailed could be useful on here though.

Oh by the way guys, its worth noting that the head is a little different than what most Pullips have (judging by online customization tutorials anyway). You can see in the pics that her head is literally in two halves, rather than the headcap style where only the upper cranium is separate. If you were going for a mohawk, bald, or other style that needed a shiny smooth surface it actually works out really well. With a little sanding the seam line would be pretty subtle too.

Thanks so much for the review!! This actually tempts me to get a Pullip, exactly for the reason you mentioned with the head being in two halves. That really makes a nice base for a more wild hairstyle! Quick question, is she the size of a normal Pullip? She looks to be a bit more "normally proportioned"...perhaps it's because there's no wig on her yet?

Sorry I skipped out for a while! I don't have one to compare but as far as I can tell they are exactly the same size as the current line of Pullips. Her body is the new standard Type 4, her eye mech is the standard one, and her wig is an 8-9.

Oh and this is her now. Its not her proper wig but that one is missing so this will do for now. She's very pearly and glittery and the little hearts in her pupils are actually iridescent confetti.

Oh my Gosh, she is GORGEOUS!!! Did you do everything yourself? I am absolutely in love with her glittery, glitzy look! I think Pullip needs to take some notes from you! :D This is just incredible and really sorely tempts me.

Haha, yep! Everything done since the blank shots is by me. It was a bit tricky to figure some stuff out (I seriously just stared at her eyes for a good week or so before even attempting anything) but it was fun! Rundown of what I did:
-sand matted face
-faceup with lots of pearl powder
-painted and deco'd eyelids
-new lashes (her included lashes got all mushed up :( )
-eyes are combo of glittery nail lacquer, acrylic, and heart shaped confetti sequin
-applied rhinestones (for nail art, they're so cheap and tiny and perfect!)

Her eyebrows are actually a soft purple too, as her wig is supposed to be a lavender color. It has of course disappeared the second she arrived so she is borrowing one of Ayako's lolita wigs and a very oversized robe from one of Googly's Playboy dolls.

So cool! I've been wanting to maybe try customizing my own Pullip too; their eye systems are pretty cool. But I loved how yours turned out.. Especially the soft pinks in that first picture! She looks like she's out in the cold, wrapped up in furs with that soft pink blushing <3
