Possible Loki Custom. Help Greatly Appreciated!

Postby werepuppy » Thu Mar 20, 2014 6:01 pm

So, I'm a huge fan of comic books and comic book movies, and lately I've been having all sorts of feels related to Loki. To the point where I actually have considered saving to try to get one of the Hot Toys released. Then the thought came to me; why don't I make my own Loki? Someone seems to be selling off parts and outfit bits on eBay which would work towards making my Loki - stuff that includes pieces of his armour and the like, but I think I'd be tempted to put him in a dashing suit, because he does so wear them well. But then...

Well, I came across what it said to be custom head sculpts that look, well, perfect. And they come complete with face-up and molded hair. And I'm tempted, I must admit, but I have a worry. Are these likely to be recasts? Would I be better off just saving up and trying to get one of the official releases? Or should I move ahead with my custom idea, and if so, anyone know where I'd find a suit to fit the muscular body with narrow shoulders?

Again; any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, kind peoples!

Who made the original? Some 1/6 are slightly bigger or smaller than the others so you might do best with a same brand body. That being said there is a large market for all sorts of clothes that fit most of the guys.

Are you patient? Do you irritate easy? If so i would get the hot toys model, this way you have something solid and can mod his attire if need be. If youre adventureous with a little more patience, and want to grow with him, then you should definitely obitsu him. What other clothes do you want him to wear?

Some stores like Money Depot slit up boxed figures and sell the parts individually. If you really want Loki's movie outfit and accessories, I'd say save up for the boxed.
I'm mostly on Tumblr now.

I agree, if it's a specific character with specific stuff save up for the box set, you'll be very happy with all the stuff it will come with. Hot Toys are quality bodies with great joints so he should last a good long time.

Hey there werepuppy!! Your post is a little confusing...are you saying you want to piecemeal Loki (i.e. buying all the little broken up set pieces to make a full Loki?), or are you saying you want to buy a head and body and put him in a suit? As for the head, I do know there is a prominent sculptor of 1/6 resin heads, I've spoken with her a few times about custom work, it could possibly be her work, and not a recast. I think I know what head you're talking about, and I'd say go for it! The Hot Toys head is actually a little too detailed for me (pores don't look pretty on 1/6 scale), so if you see another head you like better, I don't see the harm in getting it. :D (Plus...that boxed Loki is freaking expensive. My friend is determined as hell to get me into Thor/Loki because she told me it was feels overload and so I randomly started looking up action figures the other day! )

Thank you all for the great help! Having considered it all carefully, I think I will save for the boxed figure, but at the same time, keep a little look out for anything that will let me make my own version of Loki (not exactly piecemeal but I suppose it would be a near enough term to fit)

Again; I really must thank you all for the great advice! It's great to be able to ask and have people understand what I mean. I don't have that often among my friends when it comes to this particular hobby, so I really appreciate DS for giving me a place to speak with all you lovely peoples!

<---Congratulations on your decision!! ;) That figure is expensive but it's gorgeous, and despite the sound of my wallet's muffled screaming I think you know which one ultimately matters more to me! ;) When you buy him since he's a complete figure you can just be on the lookout for a suit you would like for him to wear as well. :D That would take care of the custom aspect things if all you're really looking for is a dapper change of clothes for him!

Also, no thanks needed, at least not for me! You're a sweetheart, my only complaint is you're not on enough!
