New Corset for Elyse

They're too sexy for their clothing - but they have to wear them anyway! Did you buy it? Did you make it? Who cares - let'm strut their stuff here!

New Corset for Elyse

Front view, not sure what the material is actually supposed to be used for, but it looked pretty nice for a corset to me. I went with a complementary-esk color for the thread rather then a matching color to make them really stand out... I should probably use matching thread for the actual seam threads next time if i plan to use complementary for the visible detail threads. The bottom and top edges stretched a bit more then I wanted while sewing the final stiches, but the sewing machine also chose that particular moment to disagree with me completely...

I went with eyelets on the back because I've always loved how the crisscrossing ribbons look. The original plan had 5 eyelets on each side, but they were so hard to get through all the layers of material I stopped at 3. I may add the others later, but I'm also worried about it looking too dense if I do. Also, those are hard to tie and adjust. >.>

a 3/4rds view from the back, just kinda liked how it turned out, kinda like a pinup.

All in all, I guess it's alright for a first try.

Oh and because Elyse insists it's not a proper set of pictures of a corset if there isn't the top down shot...

(man this shot really brings home the fact my girls still need face-ups >.> )

Wow! I really like the contrasting thread. I think the seam thread looks just fine! Wish i could come up with something like that for my Luna! Nice job!

Very nice! I know how hard eyelet setting can be.
Just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD.

Why thank you. Is there any particular direction your Luna/you are trying to head in her clothing choices? Elyse here fits into a Near Future/Cyberpunk type setting so her wardrobe will collect leather, neon, mesh, and vinyl (this is potentially a creepy thought for a vinyl skinned person) clothing, I'm just being rather slow to assemble it.

If you're more meaning actual construction hints, I used the tape wrap method to get the corset pattern parts (I have no idea where I first saw it, but I've seen the concept used by various people for various projects and thought I'd try it.) I was originally trying to get a matching color for the thread, but the cream kinda popped out and said "me! me!" (not literally of course, I'm not that crazy yet.)

Sorry for them being taken in front of my desktop, they were originally just for a friend as I was explaining the plastic wrap/tape pattern building concept.

(I figured since I only needed half the built up form, I could template out two corsets at once! The second one (on the left of the picture) actually ended up more of a... crop top, showing more of her abdomen and not actually providing any corset type... shaping. I don't have a prototype actually built yet though, so no pictures.)

Thanks!
In my particular case it didn't help I got the brilliant idea to double up the materials where the eyelets would go through to reinforce the area... ^.^;

I need to try that, seems like a good start. I've never made anything for my luna, everything is bought. Most ive done is necklaces and furniture.

Elyse's corset looks great, and fits really nicely! That type of material is difficult to sew! I think the lacing and eyelets at the back looks fine as it is.

I've been meaning to get some furniture done, but haven't gotten around to digging out the router and lathe. ^.^; I've tried necklaces, but haven't had much luck, probably has to do with not being very knowledgeable about jewelry in general.

Thanks! And it's not as bad as some of the fabrics I've tried working with, but it likes sticking to the presser foot (Scotch Tape helps, but doesn't completely eliminate the problem). It was definitely an experience when coupled with the sewing machine occasionally just acting funny. (It's a cheap machine so it's doing alright given how old it is)
