UK Customs?

Postby StarCat » Mon Mar 24, 2014 11:52 am

Hello everyone :)

I have a Nano Freya on the way which I bought from Junkyspot on E(vil)Bay She's coming by USPS and I've heard she may incur a UK Customs bill - does anyone know if this is true? Anyone in the UK have a Nano Freya or knows more about this than I do? Sorry if this is in the wrong place and sorry if it's already been asked - I couldn't find a topic that covered it on here and when I search elsewhere, I keep getting different answers ><

I haven't bought a Hujoo Nano Freya, but anything bought outside the EU is subject to tax when it arrives, depending on what it is and its value. The tax-free limit looks like it's £15, so the Nano will technically(*) be subject to VAT ($27.99 is just under £17 at current exchange rates), but possibly nothing else.

(* I say technically as it will depend on what value Junkyspot put on the parcel. When I've bought from outside the EU some places automatically mark down the value so you don't have to pay the taxes, others don't.)

From this paragraph on this page
All other goods
If you order or send purchased goods other than alcohol, tobacco, perfume and toilet water from a country outside the EU then you:
don't have to pay Excise Duty
may have to pay Customs Duty on goods with a value that exceeds £135
will have to pay import VAT on goods with a value that exceeds £15
Note that on all goods from outside the EU, Customs Duty is waived if the amount of duty calculated is £9 or under.

Tell me about it! I usually factor on about £26 for an expensive overseas order to cover the taxes and the extra cost of getting it delivered on a certain date. :(

My views on the Revenue are... probably best not aired on a public forum ;)

Kings, to fund fighting ;) (And occasionally to try and prevent fighting...). The original protection racket, if you like ;)
