Yellow Resin and Wig Colors

Postby SymphonicEnkelli » Fri Mar 07, 2014 5:03 pm

My incoming BJD is a Doll Family-A Shawna made from yellow resin. I'm currently on the hunt for wigs and my big fear is that certain wig colors will just blend with her skin or make her look a bit bland. So, I was wondering if any of those out their with their yellow resin dolls could give suggestions. What colors look good? What colors should I avoid?

I do have one wig I am curious about. It is a beautiful color and shape, but will it work with her complexion?

Thanks in advanced!

I feel bad this hasn't been answered yet. I don't have any dolls with a yellow hue to the resin or I'd be able to offer some tips. Once the doll arrives it will be easier to look at wig colors, I imagine. Do you have any pictures of the skin tone to post? Is it a light yellow or more of a tan yellow tone?

Heh, I wonder if the 'seasonal colors' for fashion work on doll resin colors too? I'm a Winter so I know what colors to wear and choose when dying my hair.

Here is a the company picture of their resin colors. The normal yellow is in the middle, so it is pretty yellow. I've seen on company picture of a yellow doll with a blonde wig, and it was just a bunch of yellow. But, I think my blonde wig is lighter.

I would imagine the seasonal colors would work. I just don't think anyone has quite that color skin, so it might not work as well for her. I managed to hunt down a wine red wig that will probably look good on her. It's just the lighter colors that throw me for a loop. Either they will look great or just blend and I just don't know.

Thanks for answering, by the way. :)

I've had dolls in pink, white and yellow resins (and one with a darker tone) and have never thought of the resin's color to be as much the determining factor as the faceup hues. Because my dolls are character dolls, their coloring was already fixed in my head before I got them so the couple that didn't look right with the wig shade I had in mind ended up being reshelled.

I think the wig you linked to would probably work - it looks enough shades darker and redder to not just merge in.

You could try taking screen shots of both, cutting the wig from one and pasting it over the head from the other?

My first resin bjd is a Dollzone Ying, and he is normal yellow. I have never really had a problem with wig colors on him, I have used pale blond, black, aqua and teal. I do think the wig you like will look just fine. I was at a convention all weekend or I would have answered sooner. The yellow skin tones are actually very nice in person.

My normal yellow Dollzone guys primarily stick to darker blonde and brown wigs, Monique's golden auburn color for example, and their face-ups are in the brown and earth tones range. They have a black wig which works okay but the white one they tried didn't work so well.

i think you will be ok. while both are yellow, their tones are pretty diffrent.
then again, company photos, lighting/ your screen may vary etc etc.
