Help Me With My Project?

Postby SymphonicEnkelli » Sun Apr 06, 2014 7:08 pm

Hello! I hope it's okay if I post this here, but I'm conducting a survey for a research project I'm doing and I was wondering if you all would like to help. This research project is for my Fashion History class and it is on corsets and feminism. I'm so close to getting 100 responses, but I have to close the survey tomorrow in order to write my paper, so help me reach my goal tonight! All you have to do is click on the link below and answer a couple of questions. It will take you no more than 5-10 minutes, unless you decide to write essays for some of the questions. It is all anonymous and the results will be published in my paper (which will be published as a blog).

SURVEY IS CLOSED!!!!! THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!!!!

I'm currently failing this class, but this paper is worth a huge chuck of my grade, so taking this survey will also help me pass this class. :)

Thank you!

Done :) Hope it helps a little.

I did hold back a bit on question 6 as I really could have gone into an essay-length answer then!

I answered too :3 I have owned a few different corsets for my old position at a living history museum. Clothing is actually a really important point when talking about women's history, and I always love the reactions when I let visitors poke my stomach to feel it!

I also wear lolita fashion on occasion and have seen reactions to it online that its anti-feminist. I don't really get that. You're fighting for the right to choose how to live your life, why then turn around and tell another woman she can't live hers?

Thank you so much to everyone who responded! Once I finish my paper, I'll post the link so everyone can read it.

I will say, quick gripe, SurveyMonkey is only letting me view 100 of the 111 responses I received unless I give them money. :P I hope I don't miss out on anyone's response!

This is exactly what my paper is on, except with corsets instead of lolita fashion. :)

Because you're obviously fighting for the right to choose how to live your life so long as you choose within a specific set of criteria and ideals in order to free yourself from the shackles of living with an imposed set of criteria and ideals... /sarcasm, obviously.

More seriously, there are people out there (as you've obviously experienced) who really do believe that in order be a true feminist you have to dress and behave in certain set ways. And whilst I thoroughly believe they are in the minority, because they can be outspoken and more noticeable, they tend to be seen as what feminism is in the 21st century Western/1st world. So all they really achieve is putting people off feminism and setting it up for ridicule.

Even more seriously, there are people who think there is nothing left to fight for with regards to feminism in the Western/1st world - that we have won the battle for equality and all's good with the world. This where reports indicate women still earn less then men doing the same work; where men can get libido enhancing drugs on their healthcare, but contraception on healthcare is considered bad; where a pharmacist can refuse to give emergency contraception if it goes against their beliefs (this used to be the case in the UK - I think, but can't find for sure, that this is no longer the case); where a woman is deemed unsuitable for a role because she menstruates; where... oh you get the idea.

I know women have it a bit better than they used to. I know other groups have it bad. But better than it used to be is still not equality. A person's gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, race, skin colour... should be mostly irrelevant (there are a very few exceptions - it's probably better to work up to being an archbishop if you're a Christian, for example, and being genetically female could hinder you if you want to be a sperm donor), but what you do and how you behave are for the very vast majority of the time the most important factors... erm, sorry, I'm ranting  I'll stop now
