What are you reading? Books, manga, comics...

What are you reading? What do you enjoy reading about? Read anything that inspired your dolls?

Manga wise I have Sailor Moon, Swan, Princess Princess, and Dolls. I have some Manga guides/reviews and to me it seems many of the plots are the same. I used to play Sailor Moon with my Teen Skippers in colored outfits. I love the look of Swan and some of the dolls might cosplay.

Book wise I have Harry Potter, Little House on the Prairie box set (got about half way through, really differs from the show), doll making, crafts, I inherited a sizable amount of Forteana and related books, and others that are a pain to move.

Right now I'm reading Bunny Lake is Missing. I'm at page 100 where the first twist kicks in. Basically the story is about a young mother who takes her daughter to nursery school for the first time, comes back to get her and she's not there. As it goes on we learn more about the mother and why her daughter was in school so on and so on. It's tense to the point I can only take in a bit at a time.

The last thing I read was The Turn of the Screw which I guess scares you according to your level of being scared.

Right now I'm catching up on several comic series on my iPad, via ComiXology. I think I'm the only person who doesn't mind the new version has no in app purchase ability as I rarely used the app to buy! Most of these aren't new ;)
Locke and Key (if the 4th volume ever downloads)
Steam Wars
Tomorrow Jones
I'm also reading, but up to date with, Lumberjanes and Umbral.
And when I can afford I'll get more of Fables.

I've almost finished my magazine backlog (again on the iPad) and am almost done with the latest issue of Selvedge, which generally inspires me to want to create gorgeous textile things for my dolls. And one day I might even do so ;)

Book wise, I've just been reading some of Richard Wiseman's books - he's a professor for the Public Understanding of Psychology - link to Wikipedia article as having problems summing up what he does!

Not sure what's next up on the book list - I have a few unread. Definitely Piccadilly Nine which I've been meaning to read for ages. And then various things to keep me entertained until May 22, when the new Nick Harkaway's out

As for what books I actually have... about 300 ebooks in a mix of genres, probably 3/4 fiction, 1/4 non-fiction, and over 1000 physical books - some are now duplicates with the ebooks, many aren't. Again, a mix of genres and about the same split fiction/non-fiction. for fiction, the bias is probably towards sci-fi/fantasy/urban fantasy often with a humorous/quirky edge. Non fiction it leans towards craft and cooking, with random other stuff that interests us at the time.

Last week I finished Christine Warren's Heart of Stone. Currently reading Nalini Singh's Heart of Obsidian. Amazon made me an offer I couldn't refuse-a Kindle for $20- so I will have to play with that once it arrives. These last two books are the first not e-books I have read this month.

Book wise I'm reading Poppet by Mo Hayder. Just because there is what seems like a Pipos Baha on the cover (I thought it was a Hujoo Freya)

In terms of inspiration I think the Dresden files count. I would love to get Harry's coat for Jack although he seem more like Thomas cosplaying Harry to me
And it seems to me that whenever I read fantasy like Game of thrones or David Eddingsish stuff, I tend totake my dolls to very foresty parks to pretend at adventuring.

I should continue reading the Amelia Peabody series now that Jack is in his adventurer project phase.

Currently looking for more stuff to read until the release of the next Dresden or Chronicle of Elantra book

It looks like I might have a lot more time to read and write now; since I'm currently re-reading The Wheel of Time series it should get finished faster. Then my husband found a novel or two of Misty's Elemental Magic series that I missed.

I quit reading WoT half-way through book 4. It was getting too drawn out for me. And I got tired of hearing about Nynaeve (sp?) pulling on her blasted braid. After four giant books I was rather hoping she'd just yank it off and be done with it. Meh. You think I should have soldiered through? Did things pick back up again?

Hahaha! What really irked me about Jordon's writing of this series was his detailed attention to all of the slashes and fold and wrinkles and gems and... ad infinitum... of peoples' clothing. If it helps any, unlike so many TV shows, people in tWoT actually do learn from their experiences and adjust their personalities accordingly - even Nynaeve. ;)

And there are the final 3 books that were co-written by Brandon Sanderson. He didn't try to recreate Robert Jordon's style of writing, but he did stay as true to the "feel" of the previous books as he could. If you haven't read any of his own novels, I highly recommend him.

I write down all the books I read in a year and try to hit at least one a week/52 total. I only count the ones I read completely, not the ones I leave part way thru if I'm bored with them. This year I'm trying to concentrate on fantasy/sf written by women and/or POC (persons of color). Right now I'm on the 3rd book of a series by Sarah Prineas. It's a juvenile and I read a lot of YA too. Just finished Martha Wells 'Fall of Ile-Rien' series. Next up is a Jennifer Roberson called "The Wild Road."

Have to mention Shelley Adina's 'Devices' series. Steampunk adventure starring a woman who doesn't need to be rescued by a man. It's awesome. I hope she writes more. My set is on ebook, but she's now offering them in print.

Not going to mention number of fanfics read/reading. *looks innocent*
Just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD.
