Lolita

Postby Trethowan » Sun Sep 28, 2014 8:02 pm

So. Yeah. A friend and I were talking about this and we're thinking of doing a lolita / magical girl cosplay fusion. I haven't cosplayed a female character in six years or more. I've never watched a magical girl anime. Dude. I'm gonna wear a DRESS! Should be breezy.

Right, cause I have all the time in the world for sewing! hahahahaha.... oh, just one more thing to add to my "stuff I choose over sleep."

So. Anyone else into Lolita? Maybe you can offer me some pointers. Any crap brands out there? Great brands? I saw a $630 dollar dress at AWA this weekend. I thought they were missing a decimal point. Dude. No. This dress was swank! The brand was Baby the Stars Shine Bright, or something along those lines. Spiffy.

Uh, yea, based on the Gothic Lolita mags I picked up a few years ago I can tell you that Baby the Stars Shine Bright is one of the top designers out there - hence the hellish price.

Depending on the type of Lolita you want to go, you can do some interesting things with some of those high collared 1970s mini dress patterns. Most of them are fairly simple, it's just slapping on some extra layers of lace :)

Ha! They're the Prada of Lolita. :-p Thanks for the pattern ideas and links. I'll have to check it out.

OMG. Wouldn't it be insanely cute to make my son a little outfit too? I could make cute knickers. Wee baby knickers!! Eeee....

Do lolita/magical girls have sidekicks?

I'll try to find the online company we bought my daughter's gothic Lolita outfit from and post it. They had some pretty decent prices and the quality is really good.

I believe magical girls have what you'd call mascots. Such as talking cats; flying stuffed animal lions; and sadistic, soul-bargaining cat/bunny things.

Any cute little animal costume could work for your son. I've seen patterns for vegetable baby costumes too, and ones that cover strollers.

Just remember not to make your son's costume until the last minute - babies grow like weeds, ya know!
