I found a 13 wishes Frankie at Tuesday Morning, and now have a second MH girl. So I was brushing out her box hair last night and found that under her half pony tail that she has a huge bald spot.
Is this normal? Does anyone else have her or another that has the same thing?
As long as I keep her hair styled the way it is it won't show, but it seems odd that she can never have her hair undone. I can't imagine that this was done on purpose? I mean, this is Mattel: one of the major brands of the toy world. I can't imagine any Barbies having major bald spots if you undid their hairdo's.
I don't own that particular doll but I do know that nowadays most playline dolls do have hairstyles that can't be undone or if you do take it out, they are bald underneath. My sis and I make custom dolls on commission and you wouldn't believe how many heads we've had to add hair to when restyling hair on prerooted dolls. Even Volks and Obitsu doll heads don't have enough hair for some hairstyles, (mainly at the front sides when you try to pull back hair but still have 'bangs') but you're right, Barbie still has a full head of hair, I think.
I think it's because MH in particular, has peculiar hair styles that need less hair in places to keep a good look. Sort of like Cinderella dolls----both Disney and Mattel Cinderellas-----she's almost totally bald on the inside sides, so that when her bun is gathered up on her head, it's not too thick and impossible. Anna from Frozen, is the same---if you take out her braids, she's bald on the inner sides, even more than Cinderella. It's because they want her braids 'thin' and so less hair has to be on that head to accomplish that.
From my experience, I'd say that's normal she's balding underneath----it's to get that certain hairstyle to look 'right'.
But since I don't own that doll, I can't be sure---probably DollyKim-sama would know certainly! ^^
