I was out today and saw a Freaky Fusion Scarah Screams/Toralei at Target. She's really cool!

Though I was disappointed to find out that her ears aren't attached to her head like Clawdine, it's just a headband. And I don't want to take the elastics off because the headband is slightly too big for her head and I'm worried it will fall off.

Also disappointing is the fact that her tail isn't attached to her body, it's attached to her belt. This makes for weird floppy tail action.

I was thinking of attaching the tail to her body so it's permanent. Overall I'm happy with her.
Do you have any idea what that will do to my complexion? People will mistake me for a planetarium!

Question:

I found a 13 wishes Frankie at Tuesday Morning, and now have a second MH girl. So I was brushing out her box hair last night and found that under her half pony tail that she has a huge bald spot.

Is this normal? Does anyone else have her or another that has the same thing?

As long as I keep her hair styled the way it is it won't show, but it seems odd that she can never have her hair undone. I can't imagine that this was done on purpose? I mean, this is Mattel: one of the major brands of the toy world. I can't imagine any Barbies having major bald spots if you undid their hairdo's.

I don't own that particular doll but I do know that nowadays most playline dolls do have hairstyles that can't be undone or if you do take it out, they are bald underneath. My sis and I make custom dolls on commission and you wouldn't believe how many heads we've had to add hair to when restyling hair on prerooted dolls. Even Volks and Obitsu doll heads don't have enough hair for some hairstyles, (mainly at the front sides when you try to pull back hair but still have 'bangs') but you're right, Barbie still has a full head of hair, I think.

I think it's because MH in particular, has peculiar hair styles that need less hair in places to keep a good look. Sort of like Cinderella dolls----both Disney and Mattel Cinderellas-----she's almost totally bald on the inside sides, so that when her bun is gathered up on her head, it's not too thick and impossible. Anna from Frozen, is the same---if you take out her braids, she's bald on the inner sides, even more than Cinderella. It's because they want her braids 'thin' and so less hair has to be on that head to accomplish that.

From my experience, I'd say that's normal she's balding underneath----it's to get that certain hairstyle to look 'right'.

But since I don't own that doll, I can't be sure---probably DollyKim-sama would know certainly! ^^

I don't own that Frankie but bald spots seem to be the norm.

All the Operettas I've rerooted have bald spots under their bangs. It's just Mattel being cheap and not intending for he doll's hairstyle to be changed thus the serious amount of product they use. (wet hair, work in baby powder, let sit, rinse out with cold water, repeat if desired)

So, I guess it wasn't a gal who slipped through quality control unnoticed, then.

Even if it was done on purpose to keep her hair looking right while styled, it is still a bit upsetting. I'm thinking of this from the point of view that their main demographic is supposedly 6-13. I've worked with a lot of little girls, and doing hair is always a major part of playing with dolls. If I were a 6 year old I would be mighty disappointed that my doll was unexpectedly partially bald.

Perhaps Mattel has forgotten how children really play with their toys. :(

I agree that Mattel has forgotten. Why include a hair brush if you can't brush the hair?

I did some of my Skippers' hair so much I've had to reroot them in the same color. What's left of Beauty Secret Barbie's old locks were put in to two braids before half the people on the board were born.

I believe that she is done that way because she isn't actually changed, just "dressing up" to show solidarity with her friends.

Caught the hour long Freaky Fusion toy commercial. Neighthan is my new cartoon boyfriend. And when ever you see a cliche, trope, or something you can see coming a mile away do shout it out so everyone can hear you.

Half inspired to make a Sparky doll.

I just bought a Neighthan Rot off Amazon and then picked up a Bonita Femur at Walmart. They both have their hair in a ponytail, too. Now I wonder if they're also bald underneath. XD

I need to go back to Walmart, though. They also had the ghost siren and centaur there.

His hair is fine and hers feels as thick as other gals with full heads but I haven't taken it down.
