Anybody collect reborn or other baby dolls?

I've taken all sorts of dolls out from palm sized tiny to the half my size twins. I took out a full sized reborn when I needed to figure out what size it wore, preemie. I might have asked it if it liked any of the outfits but I'll do that with any of my dolls I take out. I have my doll I spoil but he happens to be a ball joint.

In all my doll walks I've only had one person complain and they were one of those people you could tell complains about everything. Everyone else seemed fine with it, smiles were brought to faces, questions were asked, business cards were passed out, and once I was paid to give a presentation on my dolls and all the other things that go on with the hobby.

I'd rather see someone mother a baby doll to death or a fur child than have a human child they aren't prepared for. If you want to carry a reborn baby around then do it at a level you feel comfortable with. You might meet some new doll friends that way.

This. 1000 times this.

But I, very illogically, find reborns and especially treating them as real to the extreme, a bit disturbing. I think because they can look so real and I have never had any desire for children. It doesn't extend to feeling disturbed by people who own them and behave like this though (if someone is doing something harmless I find disturbing it doesn't make me think any less, or any differently, of them for doing it; it's just a quirk of my mind. Apologies if that's as clear as mud - brain is fuddled my pain and codeine. What I'm trying to say is even if it creeps me out I don't negatively judge people who do harmless things I find disturbing.)

(Edited to add I'm not implying, or that I think, that others here who find them creepy negatively judge the owners either. I really shouldn't post when I can't think or type clearly! )

I get where you're coming from. If I was still in to the reborn baby I'd be the kind of person throwing it around and carrying it by a leg or something.

The ball joint boys go out more because they're cuddly small person sized but not real looking. I did just have a moment this morning with the Obitsu 60 where I thought I should have brought his tablet, I was reading on mine, then I wondered if that would be too much.

I think they are so amazing in their realism and are little works of art. I'd expect one day people will find them in museums and such. Not only that, but there is something amazing there. A tribute to the parent/new born experience. Negative articles about them make me sad simply because there are so many unusual hobbies out there that get accepted into main stream but someone having fun with something so basic to the continuation of humanity is really unfair. All of us were newborns at some point and all of us had to be cared for by someone. It's kind of nice to know there are people out there that love it so much that they will pretend to be doing it.

That said, while I like baby dolls, I personally think newborns real or pretend aren't all that much fun. I'm glad there are others out there that think otherwise. haha.

Taking creepy to a whole new level.

Back when twilight was big reborn vampires were popular. One artist even did baby versions of Harry Potter characters http://www.themarysue.com/harry-potter-baby-dolls/. Some of them like Luna and Draco look pretty much like those characters would have looked as infants but Voldemort is quite unusual.
