I honestly think the only reason I would be upset that someone "ran out and got that doll I was talking about" is if their motivation was simply to rub it in my face that they bought it first. Then it wouldn't be about the doll at all, it would be their desire to "one up" me. Whether it was me personally, or someone was doing it to someone else, it's not a nice thing to do, and the person with such a motivation would not be someone I'd consider a friend at that point.

Like it was already mentioned, it's not a contest, and the important thing is to enjoy your own dolls. I personally LOVE seeing other takes on sculpts I own or like. I ADORE Cirquemom's ResinSoul Dai, Katja, but she is SO different from Angel, my own Dai boy, it's like night and day. I've seen some gorgeous RS Wu and Dollzone Mo that I love, too. Every sculpt has potential, and I say the more the merrier. If someone sees Angel and he makes them want to go out and buy a ResinSoul Dai, then I'm super flattered and pleased and I would stalk that person's photo galleries, to see what they did with him/her, and squee at every new picture posted.

It would honestly make me feel better about my choice if others like it too. I grew up with younger siblings and I never felt comfortable getting things they also wanted. I don't like those feeling with my friends either.

There's kind of two sides. If I mention a sculpt or a stock doll and a friend buys one of those dolls I'd be fine with it. But if I was watching an eBay auction and a friend outbid me or they bought a one of a kind or custom doll out from under me I'd be really upset. Luckily I don't have dolly friends so it's not really an issue for me.

that's the smart thing to do. i've never had that happen to me,
but i have had a friend on another forum fall instantly in love with a couple of my dolls,
and, fortunately, the seller i got them from had a couple more in stock,
so i was able to let my friend know, and they bought a pair for themselves... :D

Hrmm I think I'd only really be bothered if someone specifically bought up the last of that model available specifically because I'd expressed an interest to lord it over! But to be fair; I'm one of those annoying people who will just google image the sculpts that I like and admire other people's takes on them

I actually had a bitter experience with something like this... I was just asking on DOA about an ebay auction that had a discontnued MSD for a good price... As soon as someone confirmed what it was (Angel Fantasy Lily) the bids suddenly went past my budget... I was REALLY mad too and expressed that I was pretty ticked. Someone told me actually: "You can't expect us to NOT bid on it." I can expect some decency! I never told anyone what I was eying after that except for my mom.

Yea, I think I would be upset if someone took a doll from me or rubbed a doll I wanted in my face.

Having to rub it in your face says more about the other person than you. I've had enough experiences over my life to be in the "let the baby have their bottle" boat. Some people just have to have something because you have it. Some family members will have 20 year temper tantrums over something because they've made it a part of their identity.

Growing up I never had name brand anything so it doesn't matter to me now. If I get something I consider nice because it doesn't have holes in it I'm going to take good care of it. Xavier was my first ball joint I researched face sculpts on and would have paid just about any price for any brand but I had back-up sculpts. Most things only have the values they have because it's assigned to them. It's only a collectable because someone said so.

And if you have someone who has to buy it so you can't have it set them up to think you want the $$$$ doll and while they're gloating your $$ doll is on its way home.
