Question about selling stuff on the internet

Postby ShortNCuddlyAm » Sun Dec 28, 2014 2:02 pm

Putting it here as it's only half related to doll stuff. Apols if it's in the wrong place.

I'm thinking of opening an Etsy store to sell some of what I make/create (probably mainly jewellery, but other accessories and maybe the odd painting/handpainted card/ACEO). As some of what I make includes doll stuff, I'm thinking I might like to sell that, too.

The question is whether I should sell human stuff and doll stuff on the same store, or separate them. I think doll jewellery and accessories are sufficiently different from human ones so it wouldn't fall foul of Etsy's multiple shops policy (and one of their examples is two shops with one for adult and the other for children's clothes).

I can see reasons for going both ways, so I'm curious to know what other people think.

I think I'd separate them if Etsy will allow. Otherwise you might have to field questions all the time from people not paying enough attention who want to know if the doll stuff is full-size or if the full-sized jewelry will fit their Bratz...

You can also have different sections within your Etsy shop. I have a fake nails section and a doll stuff section.

One shop, different sections. I'll go to an Etsy shop with different craft stuff and start off by narrowing down what I'm looking for but if I'm buying one thing I might look for other stuff to combine shipping.

For doll stuff have a doll model, and state they aren't included in the listing, to catch the eye of people scrolling through pictures. Don't forget to water mark them too because they'll end up getting pinned somewhere and you might as well have people find your shop.

Thank you all - very helpful suggestions and advice :)

I think on balance I'll go for one shop with separate sections.

I have in my Etsy Shop doll and human sized clothing. I have separated them in sections, which is handy. For me keeping to sepatare etsy shoppes would be pain, as I am also selling my stuff in other sites.

Wow am I late to this - but in your separate sections, you could e.g. offer trinkets for owner and dolls (scaled down), so one could wear the same as the doll ;) (would not be my pot of tea, but some people like that)

Or a big piece for the person with a missing smaller piece for the doll like a best friends. I'd wear matching or coordinate stuff with Shi Shi, we already have slider charm name bracelets.
