Rien has finally deemed herself presentable. Quin joins in.

Rien and Quin arrived a month ago, but Rien's a rather private woman with some issues. (Oh, boy, does she have issues.) She wasn't going to face the world with no face or hair. That the human still hasn't done the d@mned buttonholes on her clothing is an annoyance, but can be forgiven.

They are my first venture into 1/3 scale. They're both Resinsoul; Rien is Xue and Quin is Gang. These are their scale, so they have friends coming. (Rien previously lived in a Resinsoul Lan, but Quin refused his Miro Lele head.)

Quin is not shy about being seen before being presentable, so he's still in factory face, and naked. He's wearing his second wig cap. That and a smile.

I'm very happy with their sculpts, and I've so far always been happy with Resinsoul bodies. Her stringing was initially wonky (off balance, I think) and it took me a couple tries to get it right. About half her joints are currently leather-sueded, but I think I'm going to try glue sueding on the rest. I've got her standing and handling the basic ballet positions. Quin is still very kicky and I think too tight, but we're waiting for better weather so he can get a few coats of Mr Super Toxic.

I don't think 16mm eyes are a good fit, but I don't have any 14s on hand, so we're waiting.

On the other hand, she has her sword, which is making her quite happy.

But she wants jointed hands, and I can't argue that.

The whole album is here, if you want more. https://flic.kr/s/aHsk8drCCU

Oooh I love them! She has a little smirk that makes it look like she knows something you don't! I love the lowered eyelids. Is that a scar on her face?

Thanks, Nella!

Hyssop, yes. Her world has Healing of the magical sort (though they don't consider it magic, just a technology), but only very talented, skilled Healers can heal without scarring; Healing tends to leave silvered scarring rather than the natural red. Rien had to heal herself, and she's at the "I took a first aid class in high school?" level of Healing.

I'm a still working on what a non-red scar looks like. I've got it working at life size with grey-scale make ups on flesh, but miniaturizing is tougher.

Thank you.

You might like to give hot glue a try. It makes perfect scars on resin. It can be applied as thin or thick as you like and dusted with pastels for any shade you desire. I do tiny details with a toothpick tip's worth of hot glue. I use the high temp so it gives me a little more work time. I've seen extreme scar mods and wee tiny little veins, just depending what you want. And it's not pigmented like paint so there's less possibility it will leave a trace if you ever decide to wipe it off later.

And I agree, you can't argue with a doll wanting jointed hands. hehe... they're so much fun!

I've been using thickened PVA as the modeling medium. Right now, I don't have a true practice resin head/body part to make experiments upon, so I've been running conservative. If it doesn't come off with baby wash and warm water or everclear, I tend to not do it. (thus, pliver sueding rather than hot glue, too.) Of course, The iPad camera plus indoor lighting at night during a snowstorm didn't do much for the lighting.

Thanks -- I will give that a shot (though the idea of using the high temp glue gun scares me. That thing is an Urgent Care visit waiting to happen...)

haha... I've never had any serious burns even with the hi-temp. It's not really THAT hot unless you're just dumping globs of the stuff on your skin and holding it there. I did that once while making craft foam armor. It cools fast, though, and stops hurting with a little vinegar. No scars, too. LOL

I stick a toothpick into the nozzle and pull out tiny bits so there's no way the heat can hurt the resin. It's pretty tough stuff. You can even boil them and re-shape their fingers (so I'm told.)

I've never heard of thickened PVA. I'll have to look into it.

Threthowan: Hey, good to know. I grew up around industrial hot glue guns, and those things are purest evil (I think they run around 400 degrees.) Hot things have a way of biting me. Thickened PVA is just glue that you let evaporate some -- that state between fresh and set. It models a lot like heavy body acrylic.

Thanks, Jobee!
