... *blinks*

Um...

... *blinks*

So part of me says nifty, and is trying to figure out how to build the belly at 1/3 for a specific storyline.

But the other part of me sees normalization of Ceasarian section, and the unrealistic portrayal of the parenting body, and local events making that a bit eep-inducing. So strongly ambivalent. I don't think I've ever been this conflicted about a doll before.

You'd be better off hunting up pictures of the Pregnant Midge Barbie (one of my wish-listed dolls...), and using that as a way to figure out how to make a pregnant belly. These knockoff ones that have been out lately would be tricky to add to another doll. Midge's belly actually came off so she could be not pregnant if you wanted (or while the baby was out). It's hard plastic and the baby fits in it and then it goes on with a strong magnet to hold it in place (with the other magnet inside Midge).

Wasn't there also an art doll that came out with the same setup? I want to say it was porcelain rather than resin. Maybe I'm misremembering things.

I remember when I was a kid seeing a pregnancy doll that had a soft abdomen, so instead of the bump coming off there was a compartment in the spine and it simulated the different trimesters. Occasionally I have thoughts about how I would make that sort of pregnancy belly, but I'm pretty sure it would require a level of skill and equipment I don't possess.

I'd go with a flesh colored spandex tube around the doll's middle and putting a bit of stuffing in it.

That's probably my solution. The technical aspect of the construction intrigues me, but probably not *that* much. :D

Haha, those clone dolls and their out-of-scale monster babies are terrifying. There are a whole bunch of other, slightly less scary versions out there, though - here's a pretty comprehensive list (including what may be the art doll Linteia refers to): http://babiafi.blogspot.se/2015/06/preg ... dolls.html

I kind of collect pregnant fashion dolls, actually - they're so weird and I love all the strange solutions to the mechanics of the baby bump.

Eurgh... One of the very few doll things that gives me the heebie jeebies - likely because of my own personal feelings wrt pregnancy, but still... *Shudders!*

I'm kind of, of the somewhat hypocritical opinion that if I'm in real life saying: "no way in hell am I ever doing that!" that I shouldn't do it to any doll of mine, even though they're inanimate plastic objects and I have no such qualms with other issues!

I had the Karen doll listed on that site. Also have the Midge of course.

Well there *is* a resin pregnant doll, but she's definitely not like the other ones listed here. Ringdoll's Frankensteins Bride is a biiiiiit more macabre than the average happy family knockoff.
