I hate Windows 8

So, my long serving laptop died and I had no choice but to buy a new one. Which means Windows 8 (yea, I know, 10 is due out soon, but it will probably be the same as 8 so I doubt I'll be happier). Anyway, may I say I HATE this program? I HATE how I have to navigate through my stuff, I HATE all the crap on my desktop and that I have to jump through hoops to get a nice plain clean desktop like I'm used to.

I also hate the instructions for installing Microsoft 2013 - they suck. Utterly and totally suck.

sigh.....everything else about the new laptop is cool though. Asus with 8gb ram and 1tb hard drive I think my database software will run fine - once I manage to install it

yeah. I know what you mean. I still miss Windows XP. /sigh.

Hmm. I know there's a way to make it so an older style Windows screen is your default at startup. I know because I did it on mine, I just can't remember how at the moment. (If worse comes to worse, install Linux Ubuntu instead. XD Mine's technically a dual-boot laptop and gives me a choice of which to run at startup - usually, still Windows, but it's nice to have the backup because Linux is often MUCH more useful for troubleshooting.)

Mine is also an Asus, BTW, though just old enough to have only 4gb ram and a half-TB hard drive that I'm constantly running in the red... XD

I'll make sure to get back to you if I remember how to switch that thingy. I only have to see the ugly mess of big clunky buttons for things I don't use when I'm rebooting... (Still have to shut down from that screen, sadly)

I've found the setting so it starts at the normal desktop page - but there are a lot of other things I hate about it. Options I can't find, limitations I find annoying....and don't get me started on the Microsoft Office 2013 garbage - OMG I almost wish I'd stuck with my old copy of 2007 ><

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've sometimes joked that Windows is responsible for inventing the Operating System. (All others previous were co-operating systems! XD).
