What do your close people think of your dolls

Postby endlessnameless » Tue Sep 01, 2015 12:25 pm

So I was wondering what your close people think you and the dolls? Do they think its weird? Do they embrace it?
By close people I mean friends/family/ect but close people sounded better.

My grandma embraces it, Mom doesn't care, Dad doesn't care but think 200 dollars for a doll is dumb, Sister also doesn't care.
But between you and me, I think doll collecting is most likely the most normal thing I do :)

I have three bjd doll friends (two I converted myself) and one Barbie collector friend. Everyone else is ambivalent (or are too polite to say anything). My mother is weirded out by them and even if I just mention one that I might buy she either ignores me or tries to change the subject. ha! But she does that with most things so I'm not sure how much of it is dolls and how much of it is my mother's complete inability to connect with anyone about anything other than grouching about politics. My dad is pretty cool about it, even tried to buy me one for Christmas but his search for 'japanese doll' took him to a sex website that he claims resulted in a virus on his computer. Oops. He gave me cash instead! Yay!

Do you mean the "Barbies"? I'll just leave the opinion of those I share my dwelling with at that. I don't live close to any doll friends either or I know I'd be doing more with them.

When the dolls and I get in to stuff together we get in to stuff together, when we don't we collect dust. They're part of my story telling, sewing, crafting, and general sane existence too and won't be going anywhere any time soon.

My son thinks they are creepy. My DH has claimed one for his own and he no longer complains when I put my Ellowynes in the front room in holiday outfits as decorations. :D
Just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD.

I'm serious about mine being "Barbies", the only real progress that's been made is that anything not human looking is a "Monster". It's a sort of why do I have to order a new body for someone off the internet for $$ when I have all those others but we'll take day trips to buy a $5 thing for the horse. It's been that way so long that I wouldn't know how to deal with someone IRL who was honestly interested in what my dolls were up to.

The board is about the only place I have where I could say I need a Hot Toys/Sideshow tall body without love handles and a Dragon neck adaptor and at least one person would have a slight idea what I'm talking about. (I don't need anyone right now kids)

My husband is supportive of them, but they're not his thing. If I really want to show him a doll I'm interested in or a face-up I've done, he looks, asks questions etc. Every once in a while for holidays etc, he'll get me a doll related gift. He has his own hobbies, so he understands the madness on some level I think XD

My mom is extremely supportive. She has a couple of tinies herself that I gifted her a few years back that she babies the heck out of.

My dad just kind of accepts them, (he's like that with most of my creative weirdness lol)

I have a few close local friends who I met through the hobby, so obviously they love them XD. My other friends are generally mildly creeped out by them, but not overtly rude about it.
