Rockin' and rollin' in AK

Last Saturday night/Sunday morning we were awakened by a 7.1 earthquake at 1:30am. We were fine and rode it out in bed with minimal disruption considering how strong it was. (Our apartment building survived the 'big one' back in the 60's too.) The most messy part was picking up a DVD tower that crashed over and left dvds scattered all over part of the living room.

Several of my dolls went flying but all seem to be unharmed. It seemed like most of the ones who crashed were my Tonners in saddle stands which is making me think about finding some new places/ways to display them. Quite a few in my computer/craft/doll room jumped off the shelves of their bookcase home and landed in a nice soft pile of dirty laundry in a hamper below their usual places. It was so strange to see some in the hamper and others that were right next to them still in place without any displacement! I have purchased some of the clear boxes made by 'Doll Safe' and am thinking I might get a few more. My precious resin Kaye Wiggs is usually laying on her shipping pillow and was further protected by some soft clothes on top of her. I may try to find a better home for her.

It was the strongest quake I've ever been in and I'm hoping I don't ever have to go thru one stronger! Still not enough to make me consider moving tho.

What about putting a safety bar or rope across the front of the doll shelf? I'm in annual 5.something country and have put yarn on my bookshelf to keep them in place.

Can't say for the jumpers, I'd come home and find one action figure on the floor looking like it catapulted over others.

Glad to hear you weathered the quake well, all things considered. Yeah, the saddle stands look good, but they don't offer much actual support beyond holding the doll up.

Ours are so random. I've probably felt less than one a year all the time I've lived up here and that's over 30 years. Sometimes we go 3 or 4 years with out anything. Short of packing them away, I don't think anything will really keep them safe and I'd rather have them handy to play with anyway. I should look into some renters insurance tho I guess.

Oh, yes, you want renter's insurance! It's not that expensive and you probably won't need a rider for the dolls. We were required to have it when we rented, but would have anyway. I've know a couple of people who regretted not having it.

First and foremost: Glad you're safe, nobody got hurt, and there was no appreciable damage in your home.

Second: Is it terrible that I got the giggles thinking about the dolls who fell off the shelves into the hamper?

LOL! They are all so lucky it's only my clothes that go into that particular hamper. My son has socks that are certifiable hazardous waste! I'm sure it was poor Patience with her huge, heavy head who went in first. I've changed out her stand and ordered more 'doll safes' off ebay. I'm looking into the renters insurance. We were supposed to get some when we moved in here but no one had anything affordable up here and nothing reasonable online at the time. I'm checking tho. It's bad timing as my DH just lost his job so every penny counts.
