They still don't have a Barbie who's just like me :/ Couldn't find hair and clothes that are Kim enough for the curvy or petite gals, why can't we have both? Even if I head swapped with one of my others or rerooted it wouldn't quite work. I'd want sunglasses on the head's hair with the big eyes of the brunette next to her on a curvy or petite girl with jeans, t-shirt, pajamas, ballet flats shoes, and cat hair.

I do look forward to seeing some user pics and/or seeing them in the stores.

It's going to take me a while to save up, but one of each body type is going onto my wishlist. I'd want a whole lot more of them if they were poseable, but as is... eh, one's enough to get measurements and possibly sew for.

I've also heard there are seven skintones involved. Are there any pictures around yet showing the range of this? I wonder if they're consistent, and if they're new tones or have any relation to the Barbie Collector dolls official shades. Things like that could make matching for swaps easier...

More than likely they'll keep using the same tones as before. It would make sense so they don't have to change the recipe for the plastics.

Possible issue...

One of the new "normal Barbie sized" girls is up on Amazon already. I liked her face and was considering getting her. There are already a few reviews, and surprisingly, her dress does not have velcro. The couple of reviewers who pointed it out said that it made the dress she had hard to remove and one said that it stretches out the wording on it.

Are there many Barbie clothes that don't have velcro, or is this maybe something else new that they are trying?
I suppose it is not a giant issue to some, but it seems like a bit of a pain.

I actually wrote Mattel about it and got a response. Here is what I said:

Hey, I just saw the press release on the new Barbie body line and I just wanted to say' Mattel you Rock.

As a collector and a customer to see a doll company like this take an interest in offering a doll for all the female body images as beautiful is amazing. I would love to see a line of Ken dolls who follow suit. Boys play with them as often as girls now.

Can we expect them to become articulated in the future?

I purchased the Made to Movie Barbie back in November and love the articulation of the doll. It would be awesome to have the three new bodies work the same way. Just a thought from a customer who is always looking for doll bodies with articulation. I've spent money on toys such as Asian Obitsu bodies and Action Figures simply because they are articulated in ways that make posing for pictures wonderfully creative.

I have plans of purchasing more of the Made to Move Barbies now that I have the first one. That is money I would have spent on obitsu bodies. I believe there are many collectors out there who would buy Ken and Barbie toys like these more often if they are well articulated like the Made to Move line.

Signed,

One Happy Customer.

Here is what they said:

Hi,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us about our 2016 Fashionistas line! We’re excited about our latest additions and proud to help kids everywhere celebrate their unique style. With 3 new body types (in addition to the original shape), 7 skin tones, 22 eye colors, 24 hairstyles, and countless on-trend fashions and accessories, your child is sure to find a special new friend to share playtime with!

The new body types are initially being added to the Fashionista line of dolls (which are not articulated), but overtime, we will be expanding the other segments of the line (swim, career, fantasy, and specialty- including more articulated dolls).

For the latest updates, you can visit our website at http://www.Barbie.com .

Thanks for being part of our Barbie family!

Best Wishes,

Woo! When they cross this idea over with Made To Move, I'm going to have a severe cramp in my budget... but I'll be happy about it. XD

Great letter, Faydreams! I definitely agree on the articulation issue... I love the new types as far as appearance goes, but without even articulated knees, they'll be standing all the time instead of sitting.

I just placed my order for three of these - coincidentally, one in each new body type. I didn't get all the ones I wanted, though, because three other dolls listed as "in stock" on the order page showed up instead as "ships by 3/13/2016" or "ships by 3/20/2016" once they were in the shopping cart. Guess I'll wait another month before I get the others... :(

It's a mixed bag for me, in that I like the added diversity but I probably won't get any because they don't have even bendy knees.

$10 each isn't bad tho... even if it comes at the cost of the joints. Some of the faces are nice (I'm not certain if I spotted new molds, but not all of them looked familiar), and I managed to spot decent starting points for the Agent Carter and Abby from NCIS dolls the Evil Overlord has been wanting me to OOAK for her...

Looks like a few more of these are now in stock on the site -- guess who just placed another order before receiving the first.
