ID help for a thrift shop find

Postby WhiteDove01s » Thu Dec 06, 2018 2:49 pm

So, I got to make a grocery trip, found a salvation army, and found this girl - who won me over just because of her complete lack of a Stepford Smiler grin despite being blond haired and blue eyed. She just looks remarkably grumpy. XD

And I have NO IDEA what I'm doing wrong with attempted image posts, so they're here:
https://playscaletheater.dreamwidth.org/6991.html

Any ideas, or is she something dollar store generic, or what?

(Hoping my pics work... nope... hoping they're fixed... Giving up, sorry)

The numbers are possibly a date so she'll be from 2012 or later. She doesn't look like anything I've seen.

Then take a guess if she's supposed to be a fake Bratz or Disney fairy or cartoon character or what and start image searches like "____ clone" "____ knock off" "fake ____" "fashion doll clone" and look for similar looking dolls.

For your image to appear, add the {img} tag before the http... address (use square brackets, not the curly ones) and {/img} after the http... address.

Like this:

Code: Select all

She looks like she could be a knock-off Ever After High figure. She reminds me of EAH Darling Charming.

You're right, she does look like an EAH from the neck up. I didn't register it because of the body difference, And I did that, but my images didn't show. I guess neither Amazon nor Dreamwidth allow linking to images from other sites. Imgur still does. tho:

That's odd. The image I linked to yesterday worked. Now it shows a broken link icon. (EDIT: I have now "faked" a convoluted workaround so the pic will show up. :D )

But now we can see your Imgur-hosted image, so... yay!

(I recommend 23hq.com for image hosting if you want a free site. There's always Flickr, but they are once again limiting images on free accounts and raising the price of paid accounts.)

Very odd. Yours didn't show for me before. And I might look into that when I get the time. I only recently got a working tablet and figured out how to send pictures to Twitter and Facebook with it, so am plotting more dolly images (again, if I find the time)... so a place to stick them to post other places wouldn't be a bad idea.

I think you might be right about the line at least! She looks like she could be one of those, though not that exact one unless there were variants. The blog that pic is from does have a brunette with her same closed-mouth headmold, tho, so, yeah. Store-brand lines like that have a lot of jumbling/mix-and-match going on sometimes. She's very much not smiling, which is what made me notice her - her expression is actually very neutral, but it looked grumpy to me at the time. XD

Thanks very much for the picture, as it did let me find where the part was in her hair (I got it detangled yesterday).

I may have to look into one of their fashion packs next time I do a Walmart order, if the body type hasn't changed too much. (another quick update: it seems to have done so from the blog - her waist is skinnier and the hips are different - though that did let me know her legs go to the sides! I have been afraid to tug them in that direction otherwise!) She's about the size of a Liv doll, and skinnier than a barbie - I got a Barbie or maybe Disney princess dress (it was in a goodwill box) on her by overlapping the velcro just a little extra, but it's almost an inch too long. XD

Quick update: I think she might be the middle one from this pack, or at least that head mold. The blond there has the same bored/grumpy 'let me out of here before I find an axe and butcher the Stepford Smilers next to me" face. XD

Looks like you found a match. She's grumpy because she just got woken up.

She might make a good B*tch Pudding from Robot Chicken.

Clearly she has not had her coffee yet. The EO is worse in the mornings until she's had at least two cups. ... Nuts, the Skipper I ordered comes with a juice set, not a coffee set. Tho I suppose I could pretend one of the glasses is iced coffee?

I actually have a character half in mind for her (one I wasn't even going to elevate to dolly status, but it happens sometimes), dependent on how she looks next to two other dolls currently in the mail.

I'm happy you identified your thrift store rescue girl, and even happier to see that she is already taking on a personality of her own! It's always fun when a "budget line" or "knock-off" manages to rise above her humble roots to become an equal in our stories and collections.
