To my doll friends. I’m sharing my sadness.

I think of everyone here as family, so I thought I would share this with you. My Dad passed away on Monday. He would have been 90 next month, and had pneumonia. He didn’t linger, he was himself to the end, and we were close. I knew I would probably have to say goodbye soon, but I will miss him.

When I think of dinosaurs, reading, model,airplanes, and piano lessons I will always think of him. I was so amazingly lucky to have him for a father. He taught the subject he loved for 42 years at the U of MN. Geology and Paleontology.

Dr. Robert E. Sloan, my daddy. I already miss him.

I am saddened by your loss. It sounds like you have many years of happy memories of your father, but, having gone through a loss myself recently, I know that at first those memories can make things harder, not easier.

Your childhood must have been fascinating having a father who was a geologist and paleontologist! Paleontologist parent: what a dream for a little kid!

Just think: he is probably getting to meet the paleontological heroes of his youth, and seeing all the creatures he only knew from bones and impressions in stone! "Oh, so that's what they really looked like!"

And you know he'll be keeping an eye on you, too! You'll feel him around once in a while, I'm sure.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I understand and share your grief because my father also just passed, on Tuesday. It was a heart attack, nobody saw it coming. He was only 64.
