Arright, this isn't a story per se, but this is what the Smart Dolls have been up to for the past week... or ten days... or... I'm losing count because this project is taking far longer than expected!

As our forum friend Kizuna recently pointed out, when left to their own devices, Smart Dolls have a penchant for getting into mischief. To redirect that energy, I have recruited the girls to assist me with a bathroom remodeling project:


Janie reminds Trivia to wear eye protection when working with tools.

Unloading the Truck

Janie: "These planks would be much easier to handle if they were one-third scale like us!"

Triv: "Yeah; for us, this is the equivalent of lifting a 24-foot long 6x12."

Janie: "Whoa! Look at you, all Miss Mental Math and stuff!"

Triv: "Work smarter, not harder! Speaking of which, I think it's break time!"

Closet Flange Installation

(A closet flange is the connection on the floor connected to the main drain to which
the toilet/water closet/commode/latrine attaches.)

Janie: "Closet flange: complete!"

Triv: "Until we need to pull it up again to install the flooring."

Janie: "I think we will only need to pull the toilet, not the entire flange."

Triv: "What about the insulation under the floor? That we didn't put in yet? Because we were in a hurry?"

Janie:  ". . ."

Janie: "If we get this part sealed up properly, we shouldn't have any more leaks."

Triv: "Which means we shouldn't have any more wet, rotten floors, right?"

Janie: "Exactly! And we will never, ever have to do this stupid project again!"

Triv: "You said this project. Like, this particular project."

Janie: "Well... if you insist on being all precise and stuff... yeah."

Triv: "... sigh ..."

"'It's only a p-trap," she says. 'Easy peasy,' she says. 'A couple of Fernco fittings and a couple of minutes,' she says. 'Watch out for snakes,' she says! 'You mean plumbers' snakes?' I asked her? 'No, the other kind,' she says."

Triv has decided that plumbing repairs are not her favorite aspect of home improvement projects. Next time, Janie can do it herself.

"Nope! Not a chance! Never, ever again! Here, you're gonna need a flashlight."

If Mr. F. tried to make the girls do something like this, yes, it would likely not go well for him

But would the girls get up to something like this on their own? Knowing them... very possibly. Although to what ends, ah, that is another question altogether!

Triv and Janie are delighted to learn that Kiz, Cheeto, and Finn took an interest in their project. They say that it almost made the miserable task worthwhile.
