Didn't fall in to the ocean

Postby DollyKim » Thu Jul 04, 2019 12:07 pm

So far it looks like the news is making a bigger thing out of the earthquake than most Californians. It was a long one but out in the desert. No damage on my end of town, just a freaked out dog, we build to code for these things.

Glad to know you're safe. I live at the corner of Tornado Alley and Hurricane Central, we get floods almost on a weekly basis and I'm used to extreme weather, but earthquakes scare the screaming blue f*** out of me.

Did I mention there is actually a fault line in the Gulf and we get minor earthquakes in Mobile occasionally? About twenty years ago we had a quake in the middle of the night and it scared me so bad I couldn't go back to sleep.

After Katrina a friend of mine tried to convince me to move to Cali to escape the hurricanes, and I said "Trade tornadoes and hurricanes for earthquakes, mudslides, and forest fires? No thanks." But mostly the earthquakes. I don't think I could cope.

I live in an area where 3 faults intersect and we get almost annual magnitude 5s. Most of it feels like being on a waterbed or a rollercoaster on a lift chain and by the time you realize it's an earthquake its over.

Twice in my life I felt an earthquake in southern PA, and both times I thought they were explosions, they started and ended so fast. Only found out later on the news they were actual earthquakes. Maybe a couple of seconds each. Kinda freaky.

Can't imagine living in an area where they happen daily and to more of an extreme. Glad to know you're safe over there.

You had another one tonight (Friday), huh?

Relatives in L.A. said they didn't even feel it, but some people in western Utah claim they did.

Yup, a bigger one last night. I'm closer to the epicenter than "LA" and really felt it but there's still a mountain range between me and there.

Glad to hear you are okay. I know too well how scary those things can be!

Glad y'all are okay, I'd be freaked out, myself, since I'm not used to it.
