I don't get it either, it's not just you. Honestly, the appeal to me was MTM in ridiculously 90s style outfits. I was just sold on that alone.

davidd wrote:A cycling jersey? A yellow jersey, the maillot jaune, no less? I might need to get that figure simply for the cycling uniform.

What is this BMR fashion trend? Is it a real thing, or something made up for Barbie? By the time I figure out what it is, it will be on its way out, that's almost a certainty.

It is an amazing looking uniform, and that doll is on the standard MTM body, so it will likely fit a good few dolls.

The line is called BMR1959, though I'm not entirely sure on what the fashion trend is. It's a line of street wear, from what I can find out. I think it's meant to be the 90s are cool again, but who knows?

Iwa_Hoshi wrote:Lol thanks.

Anyway. if you're still in this stage, continue dreaming and looking until you find the doll that is right for you. Especially if you want to go on the higher end. I had a few regrets with fullset dolls that couldn't stand up to a bunch of customs, where as a cranky little Neemo could

Yeah, I fully understand what you're saying there. Of the two resins on that list, only one is a fullset and that's more because the full-set is genuinely what keeps pulling me to that little one. The other would require me to make outfits for her which isn't too hard to do. She would be a representation of a book character that means a lot to me. However, since the UK dealer Angelesque has stopped taking orders, even if I do save up the money now, I will need to consider customs fees on top of that.

Stormlight wrote:Ooooo I love Billie's braids. I also love her name!

The braids are really a high sell for this doll. There is a fashionista with this hairstyle but I love having the MTM bodies. They're much easier to get looking good in a picture. At least, I think so - the more articulation the better sometimes.

3. C is for Captain

Captain America and Captain Marvel. Did you know that according to the comics, technically speaking, Carol is higher in rank than Steve? Fun facts.

It's confusing, but comics in general are terra incognita to me, so I'm going to get confused by pretty much everything.

The alphabet idea is interesting!

Captain AMERICA! And Captain Marvel is also an AMERICAN! Because AMERICA ROCKS, man!

And we have a SPACE FORCE now... for real!

Are there any British super-heroes? Or are comic books and super heroes a mostly American cultural thing? A cultural thing that AMERICA has used to more or less conquer the world, culturally speaking.

Which some might posit makes comic book superheroes a tool of colonialism and cultural oppression.

But they're not. They're just cool. And people everywhere like things that are cool.

I guess you guys have Doctor Who. And Sherlock Holmes. You used to have John Steed and Emma Peel. Until the Americans in Hollywood did a remake and ruined them. Americans don't do British very well.

I want to see Cap A. and Cap M. face off against The Avengers. Not the comic book Avengers, the real bowler hat and leather catsuit Avengers. You'll acquire the figures to make that happen, won't you?

Steve Rogers, stop hitting yourself in the head, it won't make it work any better.

There are British super heroes. Even some Canadian ones. I met them in old X-Men issues.

Lol. All I knew of Captain Marvel was Rogue stole her powers, western comics(shops too far from school) were harder to come by than the cartoons and translated Japanese mangas(news stand/bookstores go figure) back in my school days.

Pretty sure Captain Marvel used to be called Miss Marvel way back when. And yeah, I remember before Rogue joined the X-men she was a villain and she and Miss Marvel had it out and Rogue drained her power to the point of putting her into a permanent coma. It’s how she gained the super strength and the permanent ability to fly.

I will do my best to explain where I can. And yeah, I can see myself re-using the alphabet idea again this year. If I can think up good items for each letter that is.

See, the space force idea is way cool

Judge Dredd is actually a UK creation, and I know of some indie publishers in the UK who have their own superheroes (Look up the words of writer Ian Sharman, I cannot recommend them enough.) But generally speaking most comics here are more... comedic anthologies. The Beano is one of the longest running in the world, and we also have Oor Wullie and The Broons (all of which come from a Dundee based publisher jsyk.)

And now you know why the BBC has never sold Doctor Who despite having been offered a lot of money - even the deal with FOX that resulted in that TV movie which was the first on-screen outing of the Eighth Doctor was more of a co-share deal than a purchase.

I do believe there figures made of the Avengers, or at least of Emma Peel, but I will need to look around to see... Also I will need to re-watch that because it's been an age for me.

He was trying to salute but I like your take of it much better!

This is true, Marvel and DC both have UK based heroes, but I think the question was in regards to superhero comics written within the UK itself. At least I think it was, I could be very wrong there.

Iwa_Hoshi wrote:Lol. All I knew of Captain Marvel was Rogue stole her powers, western comics(shops too far from school) were harder to come by than the cartoons and translated Japanese mangas(news stand/bookstores go figure) back in my school days.

This is true, that was back when she went by Ms Marvel and wore the impractical black swim-suit and heels. Though she was still a Captain in the Air-Force then as well, just wasn't recognised by her title in her superhero identity. Also? That's actually really interesting - for me it was always superhero stuff that was next easiest to get. First easiest was obviously The Beano.

Exactly right! She's Captain Marvel now - has been for a while - and Ms Marvel is a girl by the name Kamala Khan. Who is actually one of all time favourite Marvel characters ever written so... that's a thing. LOL.

4. D is for Doctor

Image

Of course it had to be Thirteen! Checking her sonic screwdriver for readings of whatever menace she's on the trail of now... Or just checking the time, as you do. Also, the newest series has started in the UK and I was ... very happy with that episode. Well, okay I was waiting on a twist but I did not expect the twist we got. Though I really do need to see about making a Missy custom... and a Bill Potts at least.

The costume on this fig looks pretty cool. It would be fun if the jacket would fit other figures, but it appears to have the extremely narrow sleeves typical of Barbie-type clothing.

Speaking of Space Force and comic strips: Britain had DAN DARE: PILOT OF THE FUTURE! So, that's a high enough Cool Factor right there (without even taking in to consideration Lero the Crypt) to make up for any lack of serious super-hero contenders.

:D It comes of having a cracked mind.

And the Doctor doll reminds me that I dreampt about the Doctor the other day. He got a new form that wasn't human.
