Amber/Yellow eyes?

How do you feel about yellow eyes for dolls?

In general, I don't care for them. Sometimes it really suits a doll or the character you want for them. I get that. But it just doesn't look good to me in most cases. Specifically, I've been looking at the Ruby Red Fashion dolls and the new She's That Girl dolls and too many of them seem to have that yellow/amber shade that is just not attractive to me. I know I could get one and change out the eyes or paint them in other cases, but not without some trouble. I suppose I should be glad it stops me from buying with my limited budget.

To be clear, I am not criticizing anyone's tastes or if they happen to have amber eyes themselves. (Hey, my eyes are a weird light green...my brothers used to make me cry telling me I had Halloween witch snot green eyes!) I just wonder if I'm alone in this dislike. Thoughts?

I think it depends on the kind of eyes (glass with high or low domes? blown glass or painted resin? flat painted on eyes? acrylic eyes with printed irises? pupil or no pupil?) and the intensity of the color and if the iris has an outer ring.

Sometimes these yellow/amber eyes with dark rings give an alien, otherworldly stare that's downright creepy to me. Think Children of the Corn vibes. But they really work with some dolls! Sometimes it conveys a really otherworldly or angelic feeling too.

I think it also depends on the eyelids, and the lashes and the color of the hair or the face paint. You can get a really deep mysterious vibe from them.

I bought a pair of glass gold glitter eyes for one of my dolls. They're perfect but I could totally understand it not being for everyone.

If it's about yellow it's self and feeling it shouldn't be a primary color you might have https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetrachromacy like I do. Yellow has it's place, we just have limited contact with each other.

But anything to save your wallet from dolls is a good thing.

I have one doll, an OC with canonically yellow eyes with no pupils because she is an angel, a Seraphim, and I didn't want "red fire" I wanted "yellow fire." It works for her, but it is uncanny.

I have a few dolls with golden eyes. Volks metallic golds. They’re elves so the colors work for them. They catch the light and photograph very well.

I tried a pair of the Volks in one of my SmartDolls though and they didn’t look nearly as good. Made her look too wide-eyed or something. So I switched them with golden anime eyes and it looks much better.

My Shiwoo is wearing a pair of resin eyes that are kind of a light golden-brown with green highlights. The eyes themselves are gorgeous and photograph well, they look great with his carrot red wig.

I also love silver eyes in my dolls, too. Any kind of fantasy colors, really.

One of my dolls that's based on an OC has dark amber/orangey brown eyes, but he's 1:6 scale so you can't really see his eyes in photographs. I think it depends on the doll. Hair and skin tone can make amber eyes look completely normal, or they can look uncanny.

I don't currently have a doll with amber eyes, but I do have an OC on my doll wishlist who, as a fox-humanoid, would have them.
