And on an off topic (so to speak) WHAT THE HELL COLOR IS PAPRIKA????

:laughs: I was in the same boat!!! I needed a certain color for a cosplay I was making and Spandexhouse.com had several colors that looked 'close.' So in the requested samples , one was called 'paprika' and when I received it, it's a rusty color. Like a rusty orangey shade that's a tad on the brown side. I guess they think it's a nicer way of saying 'rust'.

Kirahfaye, that's just outrageous :( I mean, I've been on groups where we're supposed to be staying mostly on topic and then things degenerate into tons of puppy pictures or other things, but the mods are usually like "Time to get back to dolls - did you see these new releases?" I think DoA is too big, it seems they can't keep order and be compassionate.
Greyhaunt - that's rhetorical question, right? 'Cause I'm barely holding myself back from Googling some color samples of paprika for you :D

LOL - it was totally a rhetorical question. At this point I checked my email and she had sent me TWO more emails with LISTS of changes. This is only a 3 sentence invitation to an event!!!! I basically went over to my coworker for whom I was doing this (she's the middle person so to speak) and told her "Tell that woman I do not have the time to make her damn petty changes. I'd tell her myself, but at this point I'd be rude."

Test print came back from the printer, greats time and money saving idea to do a test print, long story short next idea for our memories as unless/until I invest in my own better than average printer and all the costs I probably won't be happy. Well, the idea was there. Time to Twinkle Think as they say on Sesame Street.

Well, other ideas like paper dolls of my dolls, only the third "set", and getting Jimmy ready for molding, and figuring out how to put Nicholas' head on go well.

It's a name of a spice. It's a brownish orange in color.

Getting my first on topic doll for DoA is kinda strangely satisfying. Knowing my luck tho I'll get it and it will get OT'd.
A hobby isn't supposed to leave you wistful, regretful and vaguely disappointed. BJD collecting is as customizable as the dolls themselves. Do whatever pleases you the most, because otherwise, why do it at all? All for the 'Gram Bitches love the 'Gram.

And on an off topic (so to speak) WHAT THE HELL COLOR IS PAPRIKA???? Personally, I always thought it was an herb, but I have this damn woman - who doesn't even WORK for the school but is doing a joint event with us - complaining because the color in a graphic I did - which is going to be EMAILED - is brown, not paprika. WTF???? last time I looke, Photoshop doesn't have a crayola feature where I can plug in color names for their equivalents. I mean, really, what is the hexidecimal code for Paprika gonna be?

If she were a paying client - I'd be overcharging her right now so she would NEVER come back. That or I would be charging her for every change she makes me do - since this is the FIFTH alteration in the damn graphic so far (and it's just text on a color background for the love of god).

LOL I am laughing because the shrug for my Easter dress is paprika. It is a dark orange-with some brown about a shade lighter than rust. That is why I hate doing custom work of any kind for people. People without skills are unclear and then dissatisfied with the work-and it is against the law to kill them when they get on your last nerve. An artist friend of mine has a sign in her studio that says "Don't kill the client before they pay you."

I swear sometimes DoA seriously needs to be 4Chan-ed.

Look, I am on a forum that, size wise, is probably 100 times bigger than DoA. DoA stores no pictures. DoA allows no written fiction (and we have....good good, probably well over 60 novels worth of fiction over there. *We* have no problem with size. A big site on a commercial server is CHEAP these days. So size? Should not be an excuse. Access? on a commercial server should not be an excuse.

This is 100% about control. And the control is in the hands of people who NO lives outside of dolls/anime/cosplay, and who resent people who do.
All you damn kids get offa my lawn!

This is why I like DS so much. If I'm not feeling so into my dollies, I can still come here and chat. If my dolly interests change, I'm still welcome. Even when I'm working on a project for my dolls, I can be so slow that there is no progress to speak of. I can just see the updates:
3/29- I looked at my dolls and thought.
3/30- I avoided my sewing room because I know the next step is easy, yet I am reluctant to take it for some reason.
3/31- I knit a square on my sweater
4/1- Am I coming down with the cold M has?
....

Paprika... it also depends on what KIND of paprika you're talking about. Some times it's an orange-ish color, sometimes it's more a red-brown. I can empathize because I've put with this same sort of thing in my line of work for years.

The thing I don't understand about DoA is that, if you continually get slapped around, why continue to go back? I agree that they collectively seem abusive and capricious. They are legendary for their poor and imperious board management (one of the first articles I ever saw on Encyclopedia Dramatica was about DoA) and I've been reading, watching and dealing with the fallout from DoA crap for the most of the last decade. The place is run like the entire staff is a clique of neurotic 13 year old girls with OCD and daddy issues. Yet, it stays alive and flourishes as THE "nexus board" for the resin ball joint doll hobby. It can only do that because people continue to flock there in spite of knowing the issues that are "baked in to the cake" of DoA's culture.

If I were in Kirahfaye's situation, that mod's behavior would've been the final straw. I would conclude whatever business I had going there and leave for good. No public announcement, no dramatic "flounce" out the door, just get out for good. I've done this myself on few forums and you quickly realize that being free of the drama, agitation and control that you remit to others far outweighs any apparent advantage you gained by staying.
