I also adore old cemeteries. One of the most interesting I've been to is in Appalachacola, Florida. It's called Chestnut Street Cemetery and dates prior to 1841. Not only are there graves of salty sea dogs but also victims of the yellow fever outbreak and also many confederate veterans. It's fascinating and full of gorgeous sculpture. It makes me sad that modern cemeteries are so boring.

Isnt it so nice to be comfortable in places where the dead rest? You guys are right about it peaceful and yes I do remember reading a book about in the victorian era they used to have picnics there.

I had just wanted to make sure before posting because I know on another board there was almost a riot caused by it and I try to be careful not to cause trouble online since somehow , someway there is always someone who takes something I say the wrong way.

I love cemetaries. Looking, reading and having my mind wander off what clothing styles of the day they are buried in, sounds kinda gross, but it's interesting. And the writing on each of them. We have old ones here, but dating back to the late 1700's, not like Philly old ones.

Please do, I used to do grave rubbings back in HS (when dinosaurs, or at least New Wavers, roamed the Earth). I wish I still had them. I find cemeteries, especially the older ones, quite lovely.

I love cemeteries. I always have, since I was little. They are so beautiful and peaceful, and the older gravestones and statues are beautiful.

Your Alice is lovely. Do post more obvious photos. Cemetaries are honouring to those who've passed. I can't see why anyone would be offended, personally, but then there's always someone.

Colma?!! WOW yes DO post piccies!

Several generagions of my family are buried in Colma and I have never been there. If you find gravestones with the family names Christiansen, Christianson, Scheft, Heisinger and McKinley, these are my people. Hans Christiansen was my great grandfather, Hans Henry Christiansen was my grandfater, Henry Charles Christiansen was my father, Sophie Scheft Christiansen, and the entire Heisinger clan were buried in Colma also I believe. Hans arrived in the tiny village of Yerba Buena in 1845 or 46, I think, before the village changed its name.... to San Francisco!

Our family went through the Great San Francisco Earthquake and Fire in 1906 and have been in California continuously since Hans arrived. Everyone now lives either in Daly City or thereabouts.

I miss california. ~sigh~ and yes I would LOVE to see more Colma pix!
