Not to mention that if you need to put together a 1/6 scale "goon squad" cheaply and quickly, the abundance of WW2 German stuff is hard to resist. ;)

And I'm not sure what I'd do with my villain characters, Seraya and Alrich or their minions, the Sturmkorps. Admittedly, the "SK" is more post-WW2 Cold War inspired but those are late war German uniforms they wear.

But you know, if it were to break the rules or agitate Grey somehow, I wouldn't post it here. I might politely ask her to reconsider but if she said "no", that would be the end of it. Even as a mod here, I'm still subject to the rules of the board and I agree to that as a condition of my membership. If I disagree, there's nothing that says I have to stay and I wouldn't mass- PM the membership in a big huffy flounce either.

As I often say, a message board community is not a democracy but under the most ideal circumstances, a benign dictatorship. Every member of a board is a guest of the admin/owner, is there voluntarily, of their own free will, and able to leave at any time. I disagree with the "electronic public square" comparison that some use, especially when complaining about "censorship" and "authoritarianism", and see internet forums as more a dinner party at someone's private home. We understand the guy with the bullhorn leading a protest in the public square is exercising free speech, yet if he did the same as a guest in our homes, we would likely find it disrespectful.

I wish she hadn't left so suddenly, I would love to know what all the dolls on my website mean? Just left me put that pic of stormtrooper Jimmy Page and naked Rian with his Dr Neuter puppet riding Roger while he "tramples" a Monster High and Anderson Cooper reports...

Seriously, I've been thinking about that train of thought all morning and figuring out what the best response would be.

Perhaps we should start a thread about which of your dolls do you identify with the least?

Hmm, I'm glad this has come up actually. WWII happens to be one of my favorite time eras, and with the recent release of "The King's Speech" my interest has been rekindled. Let's just say I gained a role model with that movie. My history classes always focused on Germany, Japan, and America, and never England, so it was some interesting insight into the politics and thoughts of the time.

I had actually been thinking of making a series of historical uniforms from the time period. It would be uniforms from ALL sides, and from different branches. Which means it would include a Nazi uniform. Although I am doing in the context of being historical, I must admit that I am quite fond of Hugo Boss, and rather like the style of the Nazi uniforms, even though I abhor what they stood for.

Now that this has actually come up, I'm beginning to rethink doing my "WWII uniforms from around the world" idea, as it seems to be frowned upon. I'm just glad this thread came around before I started drafting and sewing!

Serif Balehawk- I don't think that you have to worry about that. If you are making historical costumes than thats great. Just as long as you don't encourage what the Nazi's did. Keep it completely neutral.

I would love to see all kinds of wonderful historical uniforms/outfits. And I hope that you do make them. :)

Serif please don't let this stop your making the uniforms! Seriously - I love history and I've done tons of research on different aspects of WWII as well as other eras of history and I am the last person to stop someone from doing a historical project. I'm right there with you in thinking that the nazi uniform is rather stylish - it's just unfortunate that it is also viewed as a symbol of something terrible. I think your project sounds fascinating and would be a real challenge. Don't let this piece of drama stop you.

History in context is just that: history. Trying to pretend that the Nazis didn't exist is right up there with people trying to change the language in Tom Sawyer: wrong. We cannot erase what once was just because it is unpalatible to us now, but what we should do is understand WHY it was what it was to make sure that the same thing does not happen in the future. History teaches us if we are willing to understand.

Go ahead with the uniforms, WW2 is the era that gave the 1/6 scale hobby a huge boost around 10 or so years ago. There are everyone from museums to home collectors searching for authentic scale uniforms and insignia, and it's tricky to find info on the web without getting in to messes you don't want to. Don't let one uptight person stop you from what you want to do. One of the doll books I have bemoaned the lack of French uniforms and gear so the need is out there.

I may not have been a member here for very long, but I have to say a huge kudos for how this situation was handled. On -every- other forum I've ever been a member of, regardless of hobby/fandom/subject matter, if someone posted something that caused a problem, it was simply deleted and swept under the rug for no one to learn about or learn from. In this case, though, I'm SO glad to see mods facing this situation head-on -and- posting this thread (and leaving the old one viewable).

I was very confused by the flouncing-away PM from roxy, and in my half-asleep state when I saw it, I think I mumbled something like, "Who are you? Why do I care why you're leaving?" So... I'm glad to be able to read the whole story and not be left wondering forever. Thanks for continuing to be a great forum with great mods. :)
