The lure of 60cm vinyl dolliehs...

Postby Misheru » Wed May 04, 2011 5:04 pm

Less than a year ago, Highlander and I decided to take our doll collection is a new direction - deciding it was finally time to step up to the 60cm sized girls. Before them we had collected mainly Silkstones and Tonner dolls - nice fashion dolls, but not 'vinyl daughters' so to speak.

He got one Obitsu and I got one Dollfie Dream. We thought one would be fine and we could get a couple of heads and swap them out.

Little did we know how these dolliehs can take on a personality and grow on you so quickly (NO HEAD SWAPPING - they will not allow it). They also multiply. FAST!

It is funny how nowadays I shop less for shoes (unless they are for the dolls) and he buys fewer video games and we see everything in terms of 'dolls'. "Hey, did you know that "so & so" costs the same as 2 Obitsu basic bodies?" :o  So funny.

Anyway, K2 warned us and he was *so* right. The 60/50cm dollieh family is up to 20 with 4 more on the way (hopefully at home before our 1st doll anniversary  that would be fun) and several in the works just waiting bodies. Oddly enough, only 4 - 2 Obis and 2 DD - were purchased at retail. We tend to buy unwanted or used dolls and fix them up. Our house is truly a 'dollieh sanctuary' of sorts - it always has been (just ask the RanD Angels).

It is our shared hobby and what we love to do. One kid, 9 cats and loads of dolls - welcome to our weird, but wonderful world. :D

How do the dolliehs lure you all in?

AHA - so you are why I can never find a second-hand Obitsu at DoA!!!! They used to be frequent, but lately......

That's awesome though - nice to see someone who is potentially giving me and Cirquemom a run for our money on the "most dolliehs" competition. She's winning, by the way, she just wont' admit it.

yah, I just lost my bid on ebay for a 60cm for Cerise....though it came with heads....I have two floating heads...but I so want to have them on bodies soon....

I've never played with a big Obitsu before...or seen one in person....I think if I did they would probably multiply like my lil 27cms...though at a slower rate.

"How do the dolliehs lure you all in?"

I would probably have many fewer dolls if it wasn't for Planet Doll Minis. Once I held one of their little bodies in my hands, I was lost. I have all of their Mini girls-and they all demanded boys. Now my dolly world revolves around their demands. 1/6 scale is so alluring-I love the props I have found to set up their world.

My 1/6 tend to come in on the recommendation/request of an existing 1/6. Except for Kula the Gretel who snuck in and refuse to leave.

Then it was seeing online 50cms vs holding real life Dollfie Dreams (I like other people's anime style doll but it don't fit my existing 1/6 crew's style)). Robot girls and nekomimis won handsdown. My 1/3 girl wants her boyfriend but no timeframe or pressure. I still have a slot for a 3rd doll who would either be my nekomimi/Kula who is conveniently Gretel/one other up-size.

Ha - beat you out to a 60cm Haruka!! I didn't let her get to the posted for sale stage, I just convinced her owner to let her stay with me permanently! LOLS! You need a 40cm in your collection! They are darling, just think of Anna Marie!! The vinyl has stolen your house and won't give it back. They do seem to decide who they want to be, despite us! LOLS!!

I like my dolliehs a lot.
Actually, I like my dolliehs more than I like a lot of people I know in real life.
Is that bad? I think not!
