I've been pretty much AWOL for a few weeks and lurking at best. My ex's death has put both an emotional and financial strain on us all. Right now we can't even afford the filing fees to petition the court to make me the permanent representative of the will . . .

The head but not the body on a custom MH doll I was doing has gone AWOL for about... a week and a half. I've lost faith that it'll show up again but I'm refusing to buy another of the same doll for another damn head so right now there's a nude, painted body sitting on my desk.

My fairly decent day turned rank pretty fast when the old biddy across the street from my Mom started chewing out my wife and I because we dared to walk up to her fence to try and talk with her. I was installing a new mailbox for my Mom, the neighbor's dogs were going nuts and said neighbor was staring a hole through us like we were a couple of thuggish kids up to no good. When my wife and I tried to walk up and tell her who we were and what we were doing, one of her dogs knocked down a piece of unsecured garden trellis and she started whining at us like a fucking idiot and telling us to get away from her fence. My wife shot back a few choice words but was drowned out by the dogs barking and the old bitch's nasal midwestern accented screeching. These people have been my Mom's neighbors for 4 or 5 years and we know each other fairly well. Yet my wife and I just got the "you damn kids get outta my yard" routine from the damn old bag. Then she stood on her porch and glared at us while we finished installing the mailbox, which required me to be in her yard since that's where the mailboxes for that section of the street are placed. Sorry, take it up with Post Office if that's a problem!

Fine with me! No more being nice to those neighbors then. Act that rude to me ONCE and I'm done with you for good.

BTW, that's not a shot at anyone here from the midwest. I'm just pissed and her whiny, nasal voice added an extra bit of misery to the experience. I'm sure my wife and I both sound like hicks to her and I hope it bothers her.

*sigh* And I had so hoped that I'd put all the 'rejection' letters behind me when I got hired almost 7 years ago. I guess barring some unforeseen miracle, my decision has been made for me. Packing everything up again is going to majorly suck.

There is a reason why the area is called Chinatown. These old dudes/gals have been getting together and enjoying their weekends at the park and playing their music for as long as I can remember. Apparently, someone called in about a noise complaint during the DAY on the weekend. The streets near the park area where the old folks gather is in the process of being "gentrified" with a lot of non-Chinese moving in because they can pay more for rent. Western ears are not sensitized to the modal tones of Eastern music so yes they would find it disturbing. They would rather old folk not be able to enjoy music from their homeland and gather with their friends in the park. They would rather they stay at home and be bored. How are a group of old folk enjoying the weather and music in the park dangerous?

Well, yay for the world being only for the young and rich...this is what it gets us, lets hide the old folk at home and take away their pleasures.
