A handful of questions - MDD and Obis

Postby Iwa_Hoshi » Thu May 26, 2011 9:00 am

Because I keep forgetting even when I see them.

I like to know if
- Obitsu 50cm can wear the Volks MDD victory hands or is Obi50 better off with a pair of Victory hands for DDs instead?
- Modding needed?

And can the MDD wear
- the wrist joint of Obi50 (with or without modding?)
- Obi50's hands with/without the Obi wrists
- Anyone has pictures?

Okay, Back at Home!
Where are those parts bins...
Piiiiiiiiiiinkyyyyyy! Come heeeeereeeee!

The MDD hands will fit the 50cm but the "hand paddle" (the part that's in the hand, not the ball joint) of the wrist part is very small and the MDD hand will just fall off. The structure Volks uses inside the hand is much larger than its Obitsu 50cm counterpart. Some eye putty or other such material that fills the void would remedy this. Of course you could do something more permanent like epoxy putties.

DD2 hands are definitely too large.

And can the MDD wear
- the wrist joint of Obi50 (with or without modding?)

The MDD and 50cm wrist parts are very similar in overall size, shape, and parts layout. The 50cm wrist ball even fits nicely in the end of the MDD forearm vinyl. However, the peg on the wrist part of the 50cm is a much larger diameter than the MDD, a little over a millimeter. So you would have to reduce the diameter for it to fit in the MDD elbow joint forearm socket.

- Obi50's hands with/without the Obi wrists

The 50cm hands are much smaller at the wrist than the MDDs. Quite a bit of material would have to be removed from the 50cm hand.

Pinky's MDD hands are fit on 60cm wrist parts, modded to fit 50cm elbow parts.

Remember, if you are going to do any modifications with MDD and 50cms, try to work it out so you are modding the 50cm part, NOT the MDD part. 50cm parts are available for purchase, MDD internal parts are not.

Bows to K2!

All this info is so useful. I don't have my Obitsu yet since she's still in the mail but I already purchased a DD bust part for her.

Thank you for the enlightening lesson. Victory and pointy hands have potential now
*bows bows*

curious though is the square ring paddle part of the MDD's mold or does it slide and lock onto to the hinge ball? Scares me that it looks so fragile

Which Obitsu are you getting, the 50cm or the 60cm? DD2 busts will fit the 60cm with minor (simple) modification but will be too big for the 50cm.

Yes, he is indeed The Master.

K2!- if you blow-dryered the shit out of the Obitsu hands, would they stretch to fit that paddle?

The most difficult thing about doing this Q&A/troubleshooting/whatever you want to call it, is I find I have to make up names for the various components and their sub assemblies. So I end up looking at something I've written and wonder if you folks are going to have any idea what I'm talking about.

Anyway...

Will the 50cm hands stretch to fit the MDD "hand paddles" (See, I just did it again!)? The answer, yes and no. They way they stand, no. I would get my trusty x-acto knife and thin the vinyl at the entrance of the hand, mostly on the sides, to widen the opening but not remove the entire thickness. Then I would heat with the dryer before inserting. The 50cm hand vinyl is pretty thick and does not deform easily. If you have tried to put on the 50cm option hands you know what I mean. The 50cm hand looks like it opens wide enough (across the palm area) to accept the MDD hand paddle. Getting the base of the MDD hand paddle inside the 50cm hand so the hand vinyl tucks up neatly against the wrist ball is the trick.

Another thought... When I was running some tests on modifications.. I did a brief dunk in hot water which made the vinyl very soft and pliable. Would this maybe help them fit?
