Eiki (25cm Obitsu Nano Haruka) - new faceup page 3!

Postby Evelien » Fri May 27, 2011 1:41 pm

Okay, the cute Obitsu Nano Haruka head I've had lying around finally got:
- a body (it was sold to me as a 23cm but it's a 25cm but I don't mind, it's perfect for her)
- a pair of 8mm light blue eyes
- a bit of hair (I've started rooting her with ash blonde saran hair)
- a name: Eiki (pronounced Ay-kee)
- an identity: I wanted her to be a faerie, but she turned out to be a sexy diva instead... oh well!
- a crappy faceup by me haha!

I received my very first can of MSC today and even though it had been raining, I couldn't wait to finally do my very first faceup. I'm pretty sure the humid air had something to do with the MSC turning flakey (I don't know a better English word) and white-ish. I actually don't care at all because you don't see it that clearly IRL and I love her to bits anyway, but it kinda sucks that it does show up on closeups :(

I started out with pastels (I can't work with those at ALL - the powder went all over the place except where I wanted it to be) and watercolour pencils (not my kind of thing either) but after an hour of major failure I decided to use acrylic paints. The result is a rather 'harsh' type of faceup, but I don't think the black mascara is too much. I kinda like it. It's not the look I had in mind, but it's a keeper! I guess it's not very artistically great, lol, but I like it for my first-timer and that's what matters right? :)

So, ladies and gentlemen, here's my sexy sweet Eiki :)
I'll spend the rest of the night rooting the rest of her headcap lol, or at least part of it :)

oooo, ouch, yea, humidity can do that - and it may have gone on a bit thick. You always want to make light coats and that can be hard to do....I've had to erase several faceups because of MSC oopses.

It was my first time spraying MSC, I knew the layers had to be thin but how thin is something you'll just have to experience, I guess! ;) I've learned from it, might try taking it off but I like her too much the way she is now... IRL it hardly shows, I'll just have to refrain from taking closeups lol.

I think she came out great! Is rooting hard (on headcap or otherwise)?

I wonder if there's a method for taking off MSC but not the face up...

I actually quite like her hair as is! She looks so cool like that. I hope you don't mind me saying that. I think it goes well with the heavy mascara look. She's so punk.

For MSC. I actually am very heavy handed. I'm not sure if that's bad or not. I'm lighter on the Obitsu 1/6 heads but I still spray the head 4-5 quick spritzes/bursts every layer and I usually have about 3-5 layers. I don't think she's flakey because of the layering but because of the humidity. ALso make sure you shake that can for about a minute.

EDIT: oh with the pastels. Very very lightly dab the brush into the pastel. You only need a little. If you load your brush up, it will go everywhere. Keep in mind you're working on a tiny tiny area.

I don't think rooting is very hard, but a bit tedious, yes. At the same time it's VERY rewarding to see your doll come to life more and more :)
I've done it on 6" vintage dollies too, but I have to say, doing it on a headcap is so much easier! :) The vinyl is thicker than I'm used to, but also softer, so in the end there's no real difference.
I'm not sure yet though, if I'll have the patience/courage to root the head of the 60cm Obitsu Gretel that's on its way to me...

Thanks for the pastel tip. Hehe makes sense :D.

I did shake the can for a minute every time, I've read that it needs to be done, so I didn't fail in that department. I also sprayed about 4-5 layers I think. Had to remove the first though, because I put my thumb on her forehead when it wasn't dry yet. Lol!

Thanks for the comment about the hair, I see where you're coming from as it's actually started growing on me too haha, but I'm really sure I'll love her more with a full head of hair ;)

Yeah.. I'd heard about it so I posted here in the MSC topic AND on DoA, how I would know if the air was too humid, but no reply came, so I did a google search and found several people saying they'd never had problems in any wet or snowy circumstance whatsoever. I was impatient, so I decided to just go ahead and do it. Oh well :P It's not like I ruined a $50 head or something :). I'm gonna try and see what I can do without removing her entire faceup.

P.S.: My boyfriend is so cute, he says he doesn't care about my dollies at all but when I'm working on them he's suddenly quite interested, and he too said I should give her a mohawk hairstyle instead of a full coupe, cause it would make her look cool like an elf ;)
