I hardly go to DoA anymore. I can't stand the crap they make everyone deal with.

You know, I only go to DoA for the sewing part of the forum anymore; I really like more inclusive forums better. I like a wide variety of dolls. Getting to see cool dolls like the one at the start of this post is part of why I'm on the forums to begin with.
I understand that moderating a big forum is a lot of work, so limiting the number of dolls discussed and therefore posts made about the dolls may be necessary, but that "Asian Aesthetic" caveat is confusing. Honestly, it seems to be the most contentious rule. From where I stand, I would think rules like no vinyl dolls and no anthro dolls would be easier to defend and police. I think it does come down to what they think is cool.

Frankly, I can't imagine trying to enforce such a vague rule. I can't even keep up with what's out there, which manufacturer may or may not have copied another manufacturer, from what materials and with what construction methods each doll is made, and the ever popular and nebulous "Asian aesthetic" test.

As I've said before, they should drop all pretense of trying to enforce any rule or guideline and simply admit that dolls are judged to be on topic according to the whims of the staff. Personally, I can't imagine having to confer with the other staff members on this board every time some new doll is released to the market to determine whether it is on-topic or not. Then again, maybe that's just me.

Personally, while I don't think I'd want a doll like this in my collection - the artist in me is salivating with the urge to buy one just to paint it LOL. But given as he is destined to be a limited edition I don't think that's gonna happen.

Den of Angels has it's uses: lots of info on resins, market place, meet-ups, pictures. On the down side is plenty of attitudes in need of a reality check.

I think the sculpt is cool but I don't know what I'd do with him.

As others have said, DoA isn't an all bad place by any stretch. I've bought some great dolls in their marketplace and I love the Workshop area for the sewing and faceup tutorials. What I avoid are the discussion areas about individual dolls and such because those tend to be the areas where you start having immature posting and such.

And if you want to see what a sculpt looks like in owner photos it is really one of the best sources - they just have some wierd rules sometimes and/or wierd enforcement.

I do enjoy DOA. I've learnt so much there, and made also met some wonderful people. I only function in very small corner of it - the sewing and knitting, and threads specific to my own dolls. I strictly avoid all the controversial discussions; the bickering they often end up in holds no interest. Of course, with such a large membership that is probably inevitable.

DOA is darn useful, especially if you're looking for owner pics or something. You just have to avoid the discussion threads, which apparently are the spare pastures for everyone's dramallamas.

This guy is pretty awesome, though I don't think I'd get him (just looking at him makes my bank account wince). He's like a cross between a tiefling and a Cardassian. I really respect Impldoll for putting out something that crazy and unique, especially when it's not as "pretty" as Soom's stuff.

What I find really interesting with him is how damn well sculpted he looks. I mean, no insult here to impledoll owners, but I have not been that personally impressed with their regular dolls - they just haven't stood out as screamingly unique to me - but this guy is like a whole different cup of tea. I'm impressed and I hope they do more stuff like this.
