Polar opposites!

Postby pigeonweed » Wed Jun 01, 2011 8:34 pm

Here are some recent face ups that I've made! They're also my first dolls ever rooted.

Ianthe - The shy one

I love her! She looks adorable in any pose. I really wanted a doll with long hair but it turns out to be a bad idea. It gets unruly so for the time being, she permanently has them up in pigtails to keep them under control.

Robin - The troublemaker

She was originally going to be a boy but there was a little mishap which involved a blow dryer. From that day onwards... I learned not to use a hair dryer for styling doll hair. It's hardly noticeable on her head but you could really feel it on the top of her head. It's a tragedy since I like the resulting smirk on her face.

After making these dolls, I've really been discouraged with rooting. I used the tutorial from http://www.puchicollective.com/tutorial ... technique/ which took me forever to finish that I think I might have started getting muscles on my fingertips!

That's pretty impressive for your first rootings! I'm particularly drawn to Ianthe, she looks so adorable!

As for how long it takes to root, I know what you mean. I usually take about one month to finish rooting one head using this tutorial. Listening to relaxing music while rooting usually helps me ignore how much time I'm spending rooting dolls. XD

I found that tutorial too! I couldn't afford to do it since I didn't have the right tools to shape the needle appropriately. I've thought about buying the tool so I didn't have to make it myself from Dollyhair but I only needed it for a few heads. After actually rooting only two dolls, I don't ever want to do it again.

Thank you for the kind comments about my first rooted dolls! I don't think they look as good as the rooted dolls I tried to use as reference. Ianthe is my favorite too. She looks so adorable when her hair is given the chance to sprawl.

What a cute pair. I love their face ups, the eyes are really cool. Ianthe's pigtails are adorable.
