I'm curious

is there any company anywhere that makes doll clothes ... or patterns for doll clothes ... for anything other than SD13's :?: :?: :?:

it seems like no matter what site I find a link to .... the only 1/3 size doll that seems to exist is the SD13

which at times I find amusing because Volks "in theory" makes the SD16, which is a 65cm doll ...... though that and the SD17 seem to be very occasional LE's only

as far as patterns ... yeah in theory if you scale up a pattern you should be able to use it ... the problem I have seen with that is the SD13 is modeled on a girl who is a serious anorexic :? .... so it seems like I would almost be better off getting patterns for a full size human woman and scaling them down

does anyone have any ideas ... or links to places that make doll clothes for the dolls that are taller than 60cm and not anorexic :?:

I know FeePle from Fairyland sells some clothing for their 65cm girls. And their girls are busty too!

http://dollfairyland.com/shop/step0.php ... 0125114254

Also if you are on DoA a lot of people make clothing for the Iplehouse EID girls. Or will at least be willing to be commissioned to make things for them. I know there is someone on DS even who makes amazing Iple swimsuits for their girl. :D
A hobby isn't supposed to leave you wistful, regretful and vaguely disappointed. BJD collecting is as customizable as the dolls themselves. Do whatever pleases you the most, because otherwise, why do it at all? All for the 'Gram Bitches love the 'Gram.

LOL- if SD 13 was all that was out there we'd have a LOT of nekkid dolls! We have a whole thread about sewing patterns for dolls: http://www.dolliehsanctuary.com/sanctuary/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=301 The sizes will be across the spectrum because it seems no two brands have the same size. I'm not 100% positive, but I THINK the Adam Harris doll pattern company sizes some of theirs to an Iplehouse doll, but you'd have to go look to be sure.

SD, or SD13 tend to be used as generic terms to represent the size range of the 60cm+ doll. So even though I don't own any of the Volks BJDs, I "have" seven SD sized dolls :) The important thing when clothes shopping is to know what your doll's measurements are and compare them to the measurements of the doll the clothes were made for. 9 times out of 10 you'll find that SD clothing fits most dolls in a given size range - maybe a bit loose here, a bit tight there, but generally a fit.

As long as you aren't getting into 70 cm range, if you are looking for premade clothing, either commission for your specific doll body or go for stuff made with material with some stretch and the ability to resize easily by corset-style lacing or moving a couple of snaps--or things that are one-size-fits-all in human versions, like peasant blouses.

A dress like this has a lot of stretch as it is made of 4-way stretch velvet in a pattern specifically made for stretch fabrics

Now ordinarily, I would NOT give away a pattern that was for sale, but Patterns in Thyme has fallen off the face of the planet, so here is the jpg pattern for that dress in SD size. It's stupid simple to make, and in a short version is very classic. Print as is on letter size paper.

thank you very much for that link :D ... I gave it a brief look and it looks like they might be a very nice source :D

I ran across a beautiful outfit posted on the IpleHouse site by a member of DoA (for the exact same size/type EID as I have) ... when I finally found out who and what they are (other than a biker gang, yes there IS a biker group of the same name) ... I saw a little notice on the front door of their website ... "membership by invitation only"

ROFL ...... hmmmmmm nekkid dolls ....... I know of a few doll groups where that is how the owners prefer their dolls :o

more seriously though ... thank you for the feedback ... after I get done with my running around today I'll check out the thread you listed ... and I'll look into the pattern company you mentioned :D

I've already tried that, with a sweater that IpleHouse listed as being useable for both the SID and EID dolls ... Mio wasnt real happy with me  ... trying to fit a 38"DD girl into a sweater designed for a maximum of a 35.5"D ... doesnt work real good ... and the sweater really DOESNT like it at all ........ (the red sweater in the pics I posted of her, will probably not be useable by Mio any more)

all I have is my Mio ... and she is 65cm ... (but busty and not anorexic skinny)

that has some definite possibilities (copying files to my laptop) ... thank you :D

Patterns in Thyme arent the only ones who seem to have fallen off the earth ... I have run across a few others as well that used to make very nice historical based patterns ... I had been thinking about getting one and trying to scale it down

GraceFaerie has some 70cm patterns.
Her patterns also frequently have more than one size/style in a package that are specifically fitted to particular models (and she lists which ones they are, so you can get the pattern that fits your doll).

You can also take SD13 patterns to a photo-copier (say, at Kinko's or Staples) and enlarge them slightly for larger dolls. (I'd have to experiment to see exactly what the enlargement percentage should be, though.) Even the generic size "SD13" is not going to fit every 60cm doll equally well, especially if you're talking about tailored designs. (T-shirts and kimonos are pretty easy, fitted jackets or close-fitting jeans often have to be adjusted as you go...)

The 65cm girls are relatively new (I have one too, and I haven't done much for her yet..), so there aren't many patterns pre-made for them. But you could try enlarging a regular 60cm girl pattern up about 5-10% and see how that works.
This space for rent.....

that is what I was going to try with full sized adult patterns ... reduce them and see if it works ... and it looks like that is what I am going to have to do with most doll patterns too :|

oh ok ... I wasnt aware that the 65cm girls were a newer size ... and yeah that would make clothes for them harder to find

I would suggest measuring your doll and comparing the measurements to other company dolls, even in other height ranges. Chest/waist/hips aren't always consistent to height. Some 65 and 70 cm boys are skinny enough to fit in things for 60cm boys (though pants and sleeves might not be long enough), MSD Iplehouse girls are known to be able to wear SD clothing, and 60cm Obitsu girls are skinny enough to wear some larger MSD clothing and shoes. Plus a lot of clothing and patterns are listed to fit a few popular companies bodies, so it helps to know which is closest in size.
It also pays to look at things in a 'can I *make* that fit' way. Bigger girls are a new thing, but I've seen some EID women wearing 70cm mens clothing, and looking very lovely in it. If you are intending to sew it, you can turn men's patterns into feminine clothes with darts and adding ruffles or shaping. Same thing if you reverse it, some basic shirts and pants for men can be made out of girls stuff. And like I said, since taller boys are usually so slender, you can add an inch or two in length to most SD basic size patterns and it will work out.

Scaling down patterns can be a challenge! Especially if you are using a copy machine rather than having a scanner and some nice vector software like Illustrator. That's what I've been using as I've just started to resize some human patterns. I'm cheating and starting with things that don't need to be uber precise (nothing that is "fitted") and then working my way up in difficulty. So far I only did one major screwup with the harem pants pattern I resized - I mismeasured and they were two inches too short O.O; Looks like one of my 50cm girls is gonna get harem pants LOL.

If you do go for resizing human patterns I cannot tell you enough how valuable a Proportion Scale Wheel will be! Any art supply store (not Michaels or Hobby Lobby, but a real art supply store) should carry them - or you can find one online. They shouldn't be too expensive, but then I've had mine for well over 20 years so I can't really say LOL. Basically it's two dials - one is the starting measurement, the other what you want it to be - and BANG it gives you the percentage! Definitely cuts your time down significantly for getting your starting point in the resizing.

Dale Rae is the QUEEN of resizing patterns. She actually has an online tutorial for resizing for fashion dolls, but basically everything there goes the same for BJD - they are just bigger. She has a nice measurement chart you can download, I highly recommend you print one out and put all of Mio's measurements on it. That way you'll have it for yourself, and you can send a copy to anyone you want to commission :) Here is her "sewing tips" page: http://www.dalerae.com/sewhints.htm I think she also has free instructions on making sweaters out of socks! I cannot express how versatile a sock can be for doll clothing (especially if you want a true "knit" or sweater look to it) and it's easy for beginners to work with :)

I did ... and I'm in trouble :o

the doll I found that was closest to my Mio in height ... was a Domuya "Fin" @ 25.5" ... Mio is 25.6"

but Mio is not a skinny waif ..... all the dolls I have been able to find measurements for are like Kate Moss compared to my Mio

most have a bust size in the 24cm-25cm range ...... my Mio is a 32cm

converted to human sizes ... I would describe my Mio as being deliciously curvy :P ... she is a 38DD-25-38 (96cm-63cm-96cm) WOMAN

when I started looking at human woman dress sizes ... she is an American size 12 based on bust size

SillyLilPuppet wrote: ... MSD Iplehouse girls are known to be able to wear SD clothing, ....

as I had said above
theodoric wrote:I've already tried that, with a sweater that IpleHouse listed as being useable for both the SID and EID dolls ... if I had picked the "medium" bust option for Mio I would have been ok ... and would probably have a LOT easier time finding clothes for her ... even from IpleHouse (they seem to run out of clothes for large busted EID's almost as soon as they post that they have them back in stock)

I am not discouraged ... and there is no way I am going to get rid of Mio

SillyLilPuppet wrote: ... I've seen some EID women wearing 70cm mens clothing, and looking very lovely in it. ...

I've been looking at that :) ... especially for some "comfortable/very casual" clothing ... I have had ex's that claimed some of my clothing because it was warmer or more comfortable than women's clothing
... my first wife told me straight up that women's clothing is designed to look good ... not to be warm or comfortable ... she preferred using one of MY leather jackets when we were riding my Harley to the girl's leather jacket I had bought just for her .... that wasnt the only clothing of mine she preferred

that is what I will be doing ... since I dont have a scanner or any special software

I remember learning how to use a proportion wheel when I worked at a Kinko's back in the mid 90's ... I also remember how to do it using just a calculator

Greyhaunt wrote: So far I only did one major screwup with the harem pants pattern I resized - I mismeasured and they were two inches too short O.O; Looks like one of my 50cm girls is gonna get harem pants LOL.

ROFL ... I doubt she will complain ... I have never met a female yet ... human or non ... that did not like getting new clothes :D

Greyhaunt wrote: ... Basically it's two dials - one is the starting measurement, the other what you want it to be - and BANG it gives you the percentage! ...

hehehe yep ... it is a circular slide rule  ... and I refuse to go into how far back it was that I was in school that I had to actually learned how to use slide rules for doing math of various types ... and like any good nerd, had, and carried a slide rule with me in school

LOL in my high school year book I am remembered for my "computer" :o ... because I was the ONLY student in the school who had a real "pocket calculator" of my own 8-)

Greyhaunt wrote:Dale Rae is the QUEEN of resizing patterns. ...

thank you for that information :D

OOooooo ... now that I had not thought of at all ... thank you very much for that idea :D

my next major purchase is going to be a sewing machine ... I'm hoping to be able to get a decent one in August ... (not some piece of junk from wal-mart)
... then I already have my first attempt planned ... I am looking at a medieval Princess style gown, with a lace up back

and since I have been looking for historical patterns I could convert to doll scale ... and as victoriavictrix mentioned about "Patterns in Thyme has fallen off the face of the planet,"
... here are a few companies I have found that still carry historical based patterns :)
