As for Mister Mistoffelees: Here he is with Rum Tum Tugger channeling Tom Jones, and all the chorus kitties

LOL! That is the exact video that my son watched to "inspire" his own performance, though he adores tuxedo cats himself - so he changed the words a bit and dressed up as Mr. Mistoffelees instead of Tugger (all black & white with ears and tail and sparkly white tux vest). He did really well. :D

Same story here. :P He's Mr. Enabler in his truest form.

About Cats the musical... I love that one. I still need to see it live someday, my sister got to see it in London on a school trip and I was very gutted :(. My favourite cat of all time, actually had an Andrew Lloyd Webber middle name lol: she was called Noor, but her full name was Eleanor Plush Gumbycat :P

Oh, someone mentioned Jason and his technicolour dreamcoat... isn't he called Joseph abroad? Here in the Netherlands he's called Joseph, just like the character in the bible.

LOL - yes, he's called Joseph here too - they may have gotten the name wrong :)

I got to see Cats back when it first toured the US - it was utterly WOW!!!

I saw CATS twice; once in New York and once with the touring show. It was fascinating to see what they had done with the staging for the touring show--obviously with a show running as long as CATS did, they got to build up a "permanent" set that was completely amazing, and the touring show had to have all manner of clever compromises.

If I am not completely insane, I believe that Mr. Mistoffelees originally sang his own song--yes, I just Wiki'd it and he did.

From Wikipedia--

"Mistoffelees performs the most difficult choreography in the show, including 24 fouettés en tournant and dancers cast in the role frequently have extensive ballet and gymnastic experience. Because the role's technical demands necessarily trump the performer's vocal abilities, the show permits multiple vocal tracks for the character--thereby allowing some dancers to sing quite a bit, while others do no singing at all."

So sometimes the actor who does Mistoffellees sings his own song, and sometimes he doesn't and Rum Tum Tugger sings it. Which means your son was spot-on and right in doing it himself, Misheru.

Here's the wiki-link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Mistoffelees

Back in 87 (oh my god I'm dating myself) I was in London with a friend and we TRIED to see it there, but unfortunately it was sold out and there were no cancelation tickets even :( However the doorman was really sweet and he let us go to the concessions area so we could purchase posters while we were there! I still have my framed London Cats poster!

Cats! I love that Musical, I've only ever seen the VCR/DVD/TV version though, but it is totally awesome! Mr.Mistoffelees is my favorite, gotta give props to Jacob Brent, and everyone else who plays him, those moves in his song are amazing! I would so love to see it in person, that and Phantom of the Opera (this would be my first choice). I did get to see Wicked in Boston on a school trip, that was awesome, so I can't even begin to imagine how awesome CATS and PotO would be. :D

I saw Cats at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta in 1985. That was before they redid the inside. I also saw Alice Cooper there. XD
