A question of size?

Been thinking since I got Sparrow home. I'm suddenly starting to prefer MSD/Yo-SD size vs wanting all SD all the time when I first started oggleing dolls. Has anyone else discovered they liked a size they never thought they would? Or what are your current thoughts on this size over that one?

I started with 6" dolls and now have a 60cm doll with one more on the way, even though I thought they'd be way too big for me... heh

Lol.....Yes...I am still afraid of big dolls. I love Tinies-MSD but when I first started I didn't think much of tinies or YoSDs. I would look at their pictures and go meh.....but once I held one, (Custom House Pepe) I totally fell in love with it...esp after a faceup. Blank dolls usually aren't super good looking lol.

I have a 60cm Obitsu coming my way...so we'll see if I can handle her.

I didn't think I'd want big dolls - I loved MSD size but my collection now covers the full gamut of size ranges For me, the big dolls are a matter of space - I dont' have a big apartment so having too many big dolls gets very inconvenient - otherwise I'd probably love more of them

Yeah.. about the space thing.. I do have my own study/studio/hobby room/doll room in our apartment, but it's small and can only handle so many big dolls lol. I don't know where Sosha and her sister will have to sleep..

I started with a small number of 1/6 scale, OOAK Silkies made into versions of my favorite game characters. then I went to 15-inch, then Tonner and the 16-inch brigade. I found that i adored the 17-inch DeeAnna Dentons, and thought that they were the perfect combination of size. big enough that her clothes were made like real garments, but small enough to still be a 'doll'. I didn't think I'd like the taller ones, but I kept seeing Danny Choo and his Dollfie Dreams. I started thinking how cool it would be to have one of those towering beauties standing on my desk. Then I found the Tonner 22-inch American Models. I got an ultra basic one of those that Misheru added some polish too, and liked her a lot. One of the American Model dressed dolls caught my attention at about that time, Belle Grande, I just find her face to be downright beautiful, and had to have one.

Having those two larger Tonners let me experience the larger scale, and I was hooked. Tonner's AMs are not particularly articulated, the ones I have do not have articulated wrists or ankles and have limited motion at the hip. They're made of a hard vinyl, and are therefore very limited in their ability to stand or pose - or hold a pose. I wanted something of that size that would hold a pose. I looked at resins, but the sheer cost of them, and the possibility of irreparable damage if a breakage occurs, deterred me. I looked for a long time at Obitsu dolls at Parabox and Volks Dollfie Dreams. I thought the DDs were gorgeous, especially the character dolls, but didn't like the way they were engineered. The Obitsus appeared to me to be the most poseable and flexible product. I also realized that with Obitsu, if something breaks, you can replace the part. You can replace some Volks parts, but not all of them and not on all bodies. Parabox's Gretel and Sheba heads kind of sealed the deal, I really liked them both.

Originally I didn't even think I'd get into collecting dolls, but that's another story. Once I was hooked on them I still thought I would never go for the bigger size, and much to Misheru's amusement I didn't think I would end up with very many. Give me another year and I'll have a dozen of them. I don't know how many more will happen, they may just all start getting more expensive outfits. But I won't say that there will be no more vinyl sisters for them, I'm no longer that naive.

We had a spare room at one point, now we have a doll room. Sadly though, our focus has switched almost entirely to the large scale, and our smaller girls feel a little left out. I don't know how much more space they can take over...LOL!

Mostly 1/6, but there's always room for tinies. 1 yo size, 1 40cm, 2 45cm, 1 60, 2 70s. I suppose I like the MSD size for my resins because it's comfortable to carry but it's 1/6 scale FTW because I've kept Barbies and stuff I've had most of my life. I'm comfortable with that size and there's room for a hoard.

Alantril was sitting in my hand the other day while I was arranging her when it occurred to me that I think that the MSD size is just perfect. Not too small, not too big....just right!

That said, I do have my first 1/6 size on order, so I have a chance to fall for a smaller size.
I do think the 60-70 cm behemoths are fantastic, but I don't think I'd be able to handle one.

Oh about the 1/6 size, it's a very convenient scale because you can use Barbie furniture and stuff for your dolls

I'm a 1/6 person and still likely to be. My lone 1/3 is nice and all but due to space constraint and a lack of dominant chars who can upsize themselves. I doubt I would have more than 3 big dolls. At least I can ogle at my doll group's 1/3 dolls if I need a few more faces surrounding my gal.
