"They"?

Volks, Den of Angels or both?

They Volks. Basically Volks told me to feel free to buy a whole new doll for one replacement part. Folks on DoA and the Yahoo DollfieDream group were sympathetic and somewhat helpful. I showed all their ideas to my husband and, truly useful person that he is, he fixed it.

I have a lot of questions about this, as you can tell. I know bubbles in the cast is bad, but other than that, what makes a quality doll?

Can't say as I can comment much on resin quality differences - most of mine seem fairly much the same, but I think when you get into the French resin there is a world of difference as it has a sort of luminescence to it. Even in photos I swear you can tell.

For me I think there is a difference when the resin isn't as thick. For example my new B&G Aurora - has really thick resin at the joints and it shows...makes them look kind of bulky. Mind you she also has their oldest style body, so their newer ones may not be the same.

Yea...posing....after being spoiled completely by all my obitsu girls, the lack of poseability in my new resin girl is very frustrating LOL. But she's soooo bootiful!

I'm thinking thickness of the resin, also... I wouldn't want something made really thin accidently falling over...

I've heard that French resin yellows very quickly/easily... to me that's a downfall, but I don't know if that is truly considered one. *really wants one that was made from French resin, though* =.= I forgot it's maker, atm.... but DD USED to carry them...

I've seen a number of posts on DoA about similar replies from Volks. This all leads me to believe that the Dollfie Dream line was really just an "entry level" SD scale doll, to try and get you hooked on the size so you would move up to their resins. That and an attempt to fire one back at Obitsu, who I understand manufactured some of Volks' first Dollfies. It seems like only recently (in the last 2-3 years) Volks found they could quickly and cheaply do licensed knock offs of popular anime characters in their Dollfie Dream line and sell tons of these "limited edition full sets" at 3 to 4 times the cost of the base body. Using the same bodies and heads and developing a new face up, sometimes a custom wig and or eyes, and the character's signature outfit, Volks has been able to sell a lot of Dollfie Dreams to people who probably wouldn't normally consider buying a vinyl doll but are really into a particular anime character.

I'm currently working on cramming the Obitsu 65cm skeleton into the DD2 vinyls.

How does one judge resin quality? Does anyone know? Is the weight of resin that important to strength and durability?
I have a lot of questions about this, as you can tell. I know bubbles in the cast is bad, but other than that, what makes a quality doll?

Anyone have any opinions?

I'm in the same boat with you on the quality thing XD I have no idea what people mean when they say 'high quality' resin. I mean, I thought if it didn't have bubbles and didn't crumble it was all good  I always hear people equating quality with the weight and tooth of the resin but it seems to me that there is a lot of variation between companies and it all just seems to boil down to personal preference.

mostly it seems to be the durability, smoothness and lightfastness that people judge on. the thickness is in the mold, not a quality of the actuall resin

Argh.... can't.... remember....

ringdoll uses "canadian" resin which is basical the french environmental resin but with uv protectors added to retard yellowing...there are so many really pretty ringdoll sculpts! I want several myself and Blizz has a Valo on order that should be here any day now!

JanetT wrote:Yes, I agree -- they didn't really do the sculpt justice in that paint job. Though it does help show the detailing, so you can imagine what COULD be done.... He seems to be a cross between organic mutation and some kind of techno....

I've been reading reviews of the ImpleDolls -- though I'm thinking of Christoper, not Miguel -- does anyone have one of their dolls? Any comments? The DOA reviews seem pretty positive on posing and quality....

My friend Tygati form our local doll group has an impledoll boy body! she was one of the first to get one. it poses so well. it litterally stood with an arms crossed pose straight out of the box for over 6 hours! and they can touch thier faces too! she also has the christoper head, OMG it is so beautifull in person!
