I really find it hard to let go of a doll once I have it. I have occasionally sold them, usually the fashion dolls. The only bjd I have sold was the one I bought because I couldn't get the one that I fell in love with. And then I could. I still miss Kaguya, but she went to a good home where she gets more love and isn't ignored, and Shirahime is here now and very happy. Strangely enough, I had been trying to downsize the herd. It's useless - I just received a new one today! I really hate ignoring Hazel, and she gets to go out most often. The others all get time too, although not as much.

Changing wigs, eyes and faceup can totally change the doll in question! Sometimes that is all it takes. Sometimes it is just finding a "hook" into the personality. One is a tomboy, one isn't, one is a Star Trek geek, one decided he needed purple hair. Another changed his name on me! Don't worry if that doesn't work, try putting the doll away for a while and thinking about it.
It's all about Hazel!

I've had similar problems with my baby Hujoo Suve, Clover.

She was one of the first to come home, and the first completed doll at my house.

I have 4 Obitsus, including an 11cm, and I love how they can get into all kinds of poses... and Clover got jealous and started developing an evil streak in her personality. I was considering selling her for a long time (without acting on it) but I ended up going ahead and giving her a faceup (I thought she didn't need one, but after I changed her eye color I decided maybe she needed some color in her face after all.)

She doesn't get along with the Obitsu crowd very well, but that's mostly because she's the odd one out. She used to get along fine with Cassiel, when they were the only two in the house... then I got Luis and Alex, and with my dollieh family's size suddenly doubled, Clover was outnumbered by Obitsus... Although she did like having a playmate her own size. >_> then Prizm happened... and now I have a 5th Obitsu on the way even though I promised Clover a Hujoo brother...

She's been better behaved recently, since I got her new clothes, and she finally has shoes that fit. (Mugged some dollar-store Kelly knock-offs, LOL) I get the feeling the evil streak will never completely go away, though...

^ ...as evidenced by the hugging of the rubber skeleton.

ANYWAY, (sorry for rambling so much), in the end I found out that I really do love her too much to let her go. I just have to make sure I don't let the Obitsu crowd suck up all my attention. >_<
I have so many dolls that I can't fit all their names in my signature anymore. @__@

I no longer have the dolls that I started with (well... with the exception of my 27cm Obitsu because they are easily customized into new characters). I'm actually aware of my habit of cycling characters in and out from long before I started customizing dolls. I even consider it as something natural that's bound to happen sooner or later, and when it does, I feel no remorse because at that point, that particular character means nothing to me.

After posting that and then finding out about my grandma last night, I spent most of the evening dressing and undressing Wren trying to find a good style for her. I needed something to clear my head and that was the only thing I could think to do.

Sadly.... nothing I have is doing it for her. I think I've realized it's both a skin-tone and face up thing. The person I bought her from said she had the default face, and obviously she doesn't and I just don't like the WS. As for yellowing her, her legs have yellowed pretty decently and I just don't like it, the "creamy yellow" isn't appealing to me.

I'm going to take her with me on vacation this weekend in a last ditch effort to bond, so we shall see. But at least reading everyone's thoughts on the topic really put some of my fears about it all to rest.
A hobby isn't supposed to leave you wistful, regretful and vaguely disappointed. BJD collecting is as customizable as the dolls themselves. Do whatever pleases you the most, because otherwise, why do it at all? All for the 'Gram Bitches love the 'Gram.

Trips help. I found that Taffy and I shared a few quirks that way. We still aren't as close as I am with some of the others but he'll complain right along with me.

Ugh, I'm starting to go through this finally. At first when I was buying them, my thought was always that I took some time to think about buying them and spent the money to do so and so now they stay forever. Now that my group is finally going to be pushing into the double digits, I feel like I'm really only paying attention to a couple of them and the others just sit there. I really don't feel like selling any of them but I don't want them to just sit there either.

I'm thinking maybe of putting a few of them in their boxes for a little while and seeing how I feel with them not being there. My other thought was that my younger sisters are both saving up for their first BJDs and perhaps they could borrow and play with a couple of them and get a feel for how to handle them. They're already very careful when they come over and handle them and I trust them enough to know they won't destroy them. Who knows, maybe if it feels right they'll find permanent homes with them?

I think this time of year lots of people want to reorganize and reassess what they have. My dad's selling some miniature trains. 2 girls in my local doll meet up group are selling some dolls. Even I'm considering selling a body I haven't touched since I got it.

I've sold/traded off two dolls so far. The first one was a boy that, though he was very lovely, was just not my style and didn't look like he even belonged with my other dolls. It drove me crazy and eventually I sold him to a friend and bought Alister. And even then, I almost sold Alister last year until Googly offered a faceup, to see if maybe that was the source of frustration. And now... well of course he's gorgeous and is a spoiled little thing. The second was my Obitsu girl, who was very cute but eventually her proportions drove me nuts. My thing is historical fashion and sewing, and this girl just looked odd in everything I made. Then at the first meet I attended after deciding to sell her, my friend was selling a doll I had wanted for years, and was willing to trade. Thus I got Emmeline.
Sometimes dolls just don't work out like you planned, sometimes your tastes change, and sometimes its just frustration with one part of a doll. While it doesn't always work in the long run, it does help sometimes to try a new faceup/wig/style.
