From the archives- Meg

Postby Geektopian » Sun Aug 07, 2011 10:43 pm

Since there are a fair number of new folks who weren't on 13 Doll back when, I've decided to repost some photos I took during the early years of the Junky Spot forum and 13 Doll's earlier incarnation as Dollfie Dreamland.

This little lady is Meg Callahan and she was the first Obitsu doll I bought from JS (but not my first Obitsu; I already had six, mostly hybrids, I'd bought before Emory got in to the doll business). Meg got tired of being the designated "Mary Sue" here at Chez Mlatch and graciously abdicated her title to Claire (see the blog link in my sig), retiring to a life of fashionable clothes and relative ease. But back in the day, she was a tough, camo-wearing, gun-toting, no-nonsense company commander in my para-military group, Team Wyvern. I was digging through my old photos hosted at The Trenches and decided to post some from this era.

Meg's first appearance on the JS forum, dressed in police gear, circa January 2006:

Reworked in to her military style look. She had also been transplanted from the modest SB-3 body to the "VA-VOOM" SB-2 body at this point:

With the Air Force insignia removed from her jacket and now wearing her more familiar red "Para" beret. This photo was also used as my avatar on various boards for a while and became the sort of "iconic" image of her:

Stay tuned, more to come!

A couple more shots, this time featuring some of Meg's arsenal.

In addition to the M1911 .45 pistol she carries, Meg also uses a number of other Colt firearms. Here she is with her Model 633 9mm submachine gun:

And here, she's testing her M4 SPR Designated Marksman rifle:
Image

Moving ahead in time just a bit, here she is with her more-or-less standard Colt M4. It's fairly light on extras compared to what you see real soldiers using nowadays but she does have a combination forward grip/ laser designator and a Trijicon ACOG sight.
Image

Contrary to the image some people got of her, Meg was never intended to be a psychotic "murder and mayhem" type character like, say, Revy from Black Lagoon. I wanted people to see her as a well trained, highly capable professional soldier who in many ways, is just a normal person who wants the same things out of life that many of do.

More photo spam.

Here, Meg models on my copy of Sherman: A History of the American Medium Tank. She's wearing a WW2 US tank crew helmet and a pair of "female cut" herringbone twill pants from the same era.
Image

Like I said previously, Meg just wants what many of us want, including love. This photo was from a dream sequence in a photo story I first posted a JSF back in 2007. The guy is her "maybe" future boyfriend, Mike.
Image

Dueling boobs? Meg and her best bud Aimee pose for a bit of mild "cheesecake". Both girls have Obitsu SB-2 bodies, which should make them popular with opai fanatics! ;)

By *COUGH* popular demand, more picspam! :P This time, just two photos from the same shoot. I live in the southeastern US, not too far from the Gulf Coast, so snow is exceeding rare here. However, when it snowed in January 2008, I borrowed my wife's camera and did two different photo shoots, including this one.

Because these photos were on my wife's camera, they inadvertently gained a wider audience and, shocking enough, I got a lot of compliments from people who aren't in the doll hobby.

They're all really great photos. I love the military clothing. I'm surprised you found anything to fit the Obitsu body! Or did you make them or alter them? Either way, she looks gooooooood in uniform!

Thank you! I wish I could get my photography "mojo" back. That's part of the reason I'm posting older stuff.

The military uniforms are mostly from Dragon with a couple pieces from OJI and BBI mixed in. None of it was altered, due to my limited sewing skills. Early Dragon female figures had bodies that were pretty obviously inspired by Volks' original Dollfie, so their clothes (like the police uniform in the first photo) will generally fit Obitsus OK. Their later figures (which is where the camo stuff is from) had a revised, more full, curvy figure with major alterations in proportion. The pants will generally fit, although they're bit baggy. The t-shirts work well too but the actual shirts and jackets are laughably oversized. For some odd reason, the parka in the desert uniform shot and the flight jacket fit pretty well in spite of being made for larger frame figures. Ultimately, the lack of decent, ready to wear military uniforms for the Obitsu body and my lack of sewing skills were among the factors that caused me to abandon the story idea I had for Meg and my other girls. Oh well, at least I have an interesting record of what might have been!

OK, last one for now. I'm skipping over a lot of time (about 3 years) from the last photos I posted to this one. Here's Meg as she appeared on my blog The Republic of Geektopia, earlier this year.

Image

Pretty much everything she's wearing that's visible is from Azone. Her purse came from a Dragon Danger Girl figure and she's wearing Obitsu "engineer" style boots. Not visible but she's also wearing a white t-shirt from Dragon, since her sweater proved to be pretty sheer. She's currently displayed on the shelf behind me, wearing this same outfit.

Gotta love the W01 prepaint heads. They always manage to look sweet and kickass at the same time. :D

Thanks y'all! Yeah, I keep coming back to the W-01 even though Obitsu's other pre-painted heads are also lovely. I've always been fond of this girl although I've quit posting her very much because I was afraid she was getting over-exposed. As suggested above, I kind of worked that into my girls' back story by noting that even Meg was getting tired of seeing herself and being the narrator/ main character.
