I think a good body blushing would fix that "shiny" look.

:D :D
I heard same opinion in Japanese SNS many times.
I heard other opinions sometimes, "I don't like jointed body (Obitsu, Volks, and others) because it looks like a robot or an insect." :)
Some people selected seamless body (like Tokyo doll (http://www.tokyodoll.biz/), and some people rushed to Pureneemo. (Maybe they hate Pureneemo Friction. )

If you want satin (or mat) surface, you just need sandpaper.

*I wonder why people don't modify their doll's body. The word "doll customize" is not only for face and hair.

----
I forgot I say about the stock of EB (not EBB and midi) in Japan. I didn't find white / normal skin in nearest Volks real store.

WOW, those Tokyo dolls look nice! How much do they cost, I didn't see a rpice tag.. unless I didn't go far enough in the site. lol There's gotta be a downside to those seamless dolls....

my tan dollfie plus is not glossy at all nor are most of my daughters volks bodies, she has 2 or 3 out of all of them that are and they were bought used and are much older.
i have obitsu, volks, pureneemo and others i love my pureneemo she is heavy but lovely but i like her for different reasons then i like my others just depends on what you are looking for in the body, how you want it to look, pose, color match, etc
different bodies for different reasons

The downside tot he seamless is if the skeleton breaks inside. I have a seamless Barbie and dread the day her wires break.

Actually, it's quite the other way around. Obitsu is 1,000 times more shiny than volks. Just because the smallest dolls elbows fall off doesn't make them bad. They are very good. Mine can stand and pose, maybe not as good as obitsu, but they are still great dolls.

A long time ago, Obitsu accepted the offer from Volks that manufacture their doll body as OEM.
Volks already started a sales of 1/6 resin doll body, and they wanted a ABS version for mass-production.
However, they hadn't a factory for vinyl and ABS plastic in that time. (maybe same as now)

I don't know the reason, but about the year 2000, they had a serious conflict.
(I think it were very serious because Obitsu and Volks deleted their old product from their own website... Maybe they thought it is a dark history... )

Year 2002, Obitsu produced their first doll bodies (we know it as Obitsu 27 normal female and muscle male.)

by the way,

You can find Volks 1/6 resin body in Japanese auction sometimes. It was named "Maboroshi-no-Sotai" (幻の素体) , and it was sold as resin garage kit.

After Obitsu started their way, Volks modified some sculpture of EB bodies and discounted their price.
(the left is OLD EB, and right is NEW EB.)

I want one of these resin bodies... :x

Guys.....I just got a clear Volks body. I wasn't sure from the ebay posting but I opened the box just now and yes...even her head is clear!!!! I'm so excited. I don't quite know what to do with her yet but we'll see. I'm scared to mess up her head since I won't be able to replace it easily.

My first thoughts would be glow in the dark for the eyes and a bit of the mouth, like an internal glow, or just a bit of an iris/pupil. Maybe use silver or a metallic color for her features. If you can opening her up maybe paint some of her insides like someone did with a clear Obitsu. I think in Galaxy Express 999 there was a character made of glass who didn't have any features.

I need to get a clear doll.
