Um... Hi

Postby Dark Angel » Mon Aug 22, 2011 2:25 pm

Hey... yeah, I'm still here, sort of. If you PM me I'll get it... but I haven't been reading the threads very much. I just don't have time anymore. I feel like my life is going 200 mph and I'm just being thrown every which way. Anyone know the feeling?

I've gotten a job, I'm all ready for Fall semester at school, and I've been doing a lot of strange things to my body. Lol... let me explain. I've had CONSTANT stomach pain, for years. I guess I had gotten used to it, it was "normal" for me. But it really does interfere with my life. So I talked to my doctor and she suggested that I lay off the dairy to see if I'm lactose-intolerant. And guess what? I am! Which is too bad because cheese is like the best food ever... But I've been off the lactose for about 3 weeks now and no more stomach pains!

There are a bunch of other random annoying medical type problems that I'm working through too, but I won't go into details, don't want to bore anyone.

Two nights ago I took a black and blue wig off of Angel (my first doll) and it had stained her head!!! I was devastated... especially when the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser wasn't working. But then I tried some Tea Tree Oil that Setsuna told me about a while ago, and it came right off. Thank god.

And on a side note, I think I have the most posts... The only person with more is Grayhaunt.

Well, it's good to see you're still lurking around. My own activity has been a bit light on various boards the last few months, so I understand that sometimes, life gets in the way.

Ask your doctor if she thinks taking a probiotic supplement will help. I found taking that and using lactose free milk has helped considerably. Some cheeses, like cheddar, are supposed to be fairly low in lactose too and of course, eating yogurt can also help in some cases.

Hi! I'm glad you're finally diagnosed as lactose intolerant. You should also ask your doc to run some tests to find out what else you migth be allergic to since there are things you might come in contact with daily that you may be slightly allergic to and cause you to feel sick.

As for cheese, if you get well aged cheese there is almost no lactose in it compared to most other dairy foods.

This is from the wiki entry about lactose intolerance. I have a bit myself that comes and goes with the moon cycle.

"Cheeses. Traditionally made hard cheese (such as Emmental) and soft ripened cheeses may create less reaction than the equivalent amount of milk because of the processes involved. Fermentation and higher fat content contribute to lesser amounts of lactose. Traditionally made Emmental or Cheddar might contain 10% of the lactose found in whole milk. In addition, the traditional aging methods of cheese (over 2 years) reduces their lactose content to practically nothing.[66] Commercial cheese brands, however, are generally manufactured by modern processes that do not have the same lactose reducing properties, and as no regulations mandate what qualifies as an "aged" cheese, this description does not provide any indication of whether the process used significantly reduced lactose."

So yes you can still eat certain kinds of cheeses

So that basic simple explanation of your health problems sound a lot like most of my life. In highschool I was diagnosed as lactose intolerant and I was better for a while but still got sick more than anyone else. In early college I was then diagnosed as celiac. Once I cut the wheat/barley/rye out of diet I stopped being lactose intolerant. I doubt you're celiac but it's something to keep an eye on or talk to a doctor if you realize you have still have some problems. And the Lactaid pills make the lactose intolerance way better. I used to still drink milkshakes with the help of the pills. :)

I used to have that trouble. Quit drinking milk. Except for coffee creamer.

I'm glad to see you back, glad you found answers, and hope you continue to feel better. I'd definitely suggest probiotics. They saved me from an unhappy gut. IBS sucks. Probiotics helped a LOT.
