Tempting Pullip Clone

What do you guys think? Yay or nay? It'll cost ~ £10, and it seems to be of reasonable quality, especially as I only want a head... For now

What you have to ask yourself is "Do I want to support bootlegging?" I mean, this isn't like some sort of $1 cheap obvious ripoff - these are literally being marketed as Pullip clones. I know Pullip dolls are not inexpensive (well, they are compared to a lot of resin dolls LOL) but does that make buying a blatant bootleg ok?

If you don't care, then go for it - otherwise I'd save for a real one to suppor the creators.

Hmm... Yeah you're right, I think saving for a decent quality doll is a better idea - thanks!

I can tell you that after a few years of having both Dal and Blythe clones, that it can be ...very worth it. Depending on how much customizing experience you have. They can be a great way to work on your skills while not having to worry about possibly defacing an expensive doll. While a lot of people in the dolly community shun the clone dolls, i have come to embrace them. They have given me a lot of joy, and have helped me explore a hobby that i would not have other wise been able to afford. While some of the clones are downright HIDEOUS, there are some really cute ones being made. Especially in Thailand. Most of them require an immediate body swap, but that is half the fun of custom work anyway. : ) I never think of them as being a "clone" of another doll. But a new kind of doll all together.

What ever way you choose to do it, we hope you post pictures of your new friend when they arrive!

Thanks! Yeah that was what I was thinking of - I'm not very good at painting up and customising dolls yet.

I think I may risk it anyway, and go ahead and get one. Though he/she will be a floating head for quite a while!

I will eventually save up enough for something expensive, but I don't want to immediately destroy it by attempting to customise it without having done so before.

I've got one of those. Technically it's an "Angel Gate" doll head, meant to be "pullip-like" rather than a flat-out clone. (But honestly who do they think they're fooling? And this reseller certainly finds "clone" to be a selling point!! )

The plastic quality is very good, not at all brittle. It's heavy and thick enough to take some carving. So for experimentation, I'd recommend it!

As for ye olde legit Pullips, if you're wanting to get into customization I'd recommend haunting the 'bay and ShopaDollic for custom bait to show up. If someone else has already mucked the doll up, you'll be less likely to feel bad if your customization attempts go awry.

All that said, many Pullips are already fantastically wonderful in their default state, and I highly recommend getting one at some point. (tho you may want to swap bodies... and wigs... and indulge in some other light customizations... or not, it all depends. :) )

I'd for sure get a clone. I've been picking up blythe clones myself. I'd rather experiment on the fakes than grab a real one and end up junking it.

I've gone ahead and ordered one - but am now looking at various eyes... I've found some really really amazing ones that glow in the dark! (But they cost the same amount the head did... ¬.¬)
