Mysterious Disney gals

Postby kittyasauras » Sat Sep 03, 2011 11:22 pm

Found these girls the other day, and after closer inspection, I realized that they looked different than the other ones I've seen.

The bodies are designed poorly, the arms only move from side to side, they can't go up and down. (They kind of remind me of the licca bodies, only with out the bendy-ness) The heads all say Disney on them, but the only markings on the bodies is either, 'china' or '1990' or both.

At first I thought they were fake, but the materials are way too nice and the clothing is wonderful. They don't feel fake. I could understand making a snow white and a jasmine fake...but a jane? haha

So then I thought maybe these are just very old Disney Store dolls, or maybe a foreign country release? I looked online, but I just found the new body types and the older barbie no-belly button body.

What do you guys think?

Here is all of them. Sorry I had already had a head transplant with Jasmine (she is on the fashionista body, I posted her so you could see her face sculpt), but next to her is her body (which I think is wearing Aurora's dress?) You can see the odd neck nob. It's just a large ball. Next to her you can see my Jane (from Tarzan), she is naked, all the bodies are the same type(but snow white has jointed knees, and jane has sculpted on shoes). The way the necks sit on the bodies gives the heads a hunchback effect. Next to Jane you can see her dress, next to that is Snow White.

All of them have sculpted on eyes.

Here is the only Jane I've ever seen:

But mine is completely different, she has sculpted teeth!

The bodies actually vaguely remind me of an Anastasia doll I have (not DIsney, I know) that was a special thing you could get at Burger King, not as one of the regular kids meal prize. From the look of it though your dolls are taller, this girl was about 6 or 7 inches tall. Most all dolls sold regularly for Disney are made by Mattel, and if these are missing the Mattel mark then you probably have some thing that wasn't sold through normal retail. They might have come from the parks, possibly overseas, or through a special deal like the Burger King doll I have. I know when Hunchback of Notre Dame came out, they also did a special deal with BK for puppets, so possibly thats where these came from?

Yeah, these guys are normal barbie size. Jane has a huge head though. xD Jasmine is kind of slumped over, that is why she appears shorter than the others.

Does Mattel make the disney store dolls?

I'll look up Disney land/world exclusives and promotional items shortly. Thanks!

I also found the most awesome Aladdin too, I'll have to do a big ol' thread with all these new Disney characters. ;D

Now Mattel handles Princesses and Jakks Pacific has a decent chunk of the Fairies, both are quality companies. Mattel is inclined to use existing body molds such as Barbie and Teen Skipper. Jakks will make 1/8 scale but the body quality is good even on those that aren't too jointed.

These don't match any I know, I'd suggest searching for who made Jane dolls as she was only done for a very short time.

Hmmmm.....I'm a big Aurora collector and have all the various types of dolls made of her, from around the world and the USA, and the Jane (and even SnowWhite and Jasmine) seems that she might be Applause? I have an Aurora made by Applause and she has sculpted on feet and just up and down arms but quality materials and fabrics. However, she's only about 9" in height. But maybe the Tarzan line was made larger?

I don't think your Jane's a Tomy Japan because they don't have sculpted on feet---I have 2 Tomy Auroras and neither have the sculpted feet, nor my Sekiguchi Japan Aurora, either. Plus, her head sculpt doesn't look like their style. But maybe your Jasmine and Snow White? Could be...

Brass Key are usually porcelain or ceramic (at least most of their parts, sometimes their bodies are soft and just the limbs are ceramic.) so I think they're out.

Could be UK or European Disney Store release? I have 2 different Auroras from the UK/Europe line and they look completely different than the USA releases. The UK doll has just a delicate painted face and not sculpted eyes so I think it's not her line. The European line...it's possible! Do they have their bangs pulled back off their face? For some reason, all the UK dolls' bangs are NOT cut, but full and pulled back into a ponytail like....thing. It's weird, but.... ^^;;

Or as SillyLilPuppet-san mentioned, maybe a Disney Theme Parks edition. I have a Philip and Aurora set from there that again are totally different in look and body, than the regular Mattel or current Disney Store versions.

I can take photos of all my various Auroras if you'd like and maybe we can find a match. For me, your Jane looks a Hasbro or Applause, but you never know what she could be! She's really pretty! I love her open mouth sculpt! That's so unique!

It's fun collecting all the various 'head mold' types of your favorite Disney characters!

Okay, I haven't found an image of Jane, Jasmine or Snowwhite, but I did find this:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/pinksugarh ... 770321660/

I'm pretty sure this is the same body. It's got the odd poofy cheeks/head/neck and the same type of arms.

I tried looking up 'disney classic collection' but haven't got anything yet. I'm going to keep looking for Applause and Hasbro.

Thanks you guys. All of you are amazing!

@setsunakou: It is a lot of fun! But surprising, because I always seem to find the dolls no one has ever seen. xD Or there aren't any pictures of them on the net at least...
I really do like this Jane! She is very pretty! She matches Obitsu white so I will be getting that body for her some time, I just need to figure out how to attach the head to the body. For Jasmine I added a ring of hot glue around the neck piece, but I would rather find a better way. lol

They are all very pretty, especially Jasmine. I'll start searching too, and see if I can't find anything. I love searching and trying to match old Disney dolls, it's fun. :D

Do you have any more pictures of Jasmine? Her lips, eyeshadow, earrings, and hair band can help identify her. :) I had a lot of Jasmine dolls when I was little, and she doesn't look like any of the ones that I got in stores in the 90's.

Yes, I think you're right! So she's the Disney Parks version Jane (and Jasmine and Snow White)? I'll take a snapshot asap of my Disney Parks 1989 (I think?) Aurora for you. She also (And Prince Philip!) has their unique slightly odd head/cheeks/neck thing going on, and seems rather stiff in the box. (Not very poseable.)

I was thinking yesterday, when I was looking at my dolls, that they might be Disney Parks, or Applause (because of the molded shoes). They can't be fakes because they say 'Disney' on them. (The fakes never say anything but maybe 'China').

But I think you hit on it correctly! (But why does Jane have molded shoes....? Maybe they just did that for her thinking it'd be easier?)

Here's the Jasmine, and Snow White dolls that are from the same year as the Ariel doll you posted. They are labeled as Classic Doll Collection 2000 (Disney Theme Parks)

Jasmine: http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/6658 ... ineuf2.jpg
Snow White:http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/9118/classicdollsw2ch1.jpg

And here's the Ariel you found in her box: http://thomaszee.tripod.com/mvc-602zz.jpg

Sorry for the small pictures, it's all I can find atm. But I'm pretty sure that this isn't your Snow White....but your Jasmine could be a possible match. :)

Oh! I'm sure you figured that Jasmine out, Britbrat san!!!! That looks exactly like Kittyasaurus' Jasmine!

For Snow White....could she be the old 'Bikin' one? Before Mattel released any Snow White dolls, Bikin made a full set of Snow White, Prince Charming, and the 7 Dwarfs. I've since sold my Snow White and Prince (I liked the Disney Store versions better) but I still have the dwarfs because they're more accurate and doll-like! They have rooted beards!! :laughs: (The Mattel ones were entired sculpted/PVC.)

Anyway, here is the Disney Theme Parks Aurora:

(Sorry for the bad, partial photos----the box is on a shelf, with all Aurora knickknacks in front and I didn't move anything out of the way. ^^;;)
