Miro Doll Box Opening [edited- WARNING- DOLLY NUDITY AHOY]

Postby claws » Wed Sep 14, 2011 7:18 pm

After some kind of mix-up with Miro Doll, I finally got my boy's body today. ^_^ It was cool, because I've never gotten a brand new resin doll before, and getting that big box at the post office was fun. :P
Miro Doll isn't very fancy, but they have niiiiice body sculpts!

Turns out the box was wrapped in red paper, which was wrapped in packaging tape. The box is also totally blank, with no logo.

I was actually pleasantly surprised to see that they wrapped him in a silky cushioned bag. No other extras...

...but that's okay, because look at him!

He has really nice muscle definition and a broad chest...I hope the clothes I bought for him fit...

Just waiting for his LoongSoul head from jeeryama on Ebay...hopefully, I'll be getting that in the next couple of weeks. It was supposed to be finished on the 4th of this month.

Got a question for you guys...I didn't find it in the Tutorials section, but how do you tighten the strings in a new doll? Not gonna lie, this is totally intimidating to me...I can just see this being really hard, with lots of sweating and cursing and threats to my poor doll to chuck him across the room.... ;)

Edit: Oh no! None of the shoes I bought for him fit his huge feet! He'll just have to go barefoot for a while...and now Evann's got herself some more shoes. She'll like the boots. They're kind of...pirate-y. X]
The clothes seem to fit so far, though...I got a Freakzoid t-shirt and a pair of boxers on him. He was wearing a different pair of underwear, but things started, uh, making appearances the more I moved him. That pair is definitely not outerwear... :P

Edit 2: Okay, I got him strung! (yay!) It was much easier than I thought it would be too...but, I think I did something wrong somewhere. He's kind of floppy, like he was when I got him, and he can't really sit. :| When I tighten the strings, his legs get kind of kicky, so I don't want to over-tighten him. He can stand, however:

Look at him...just standing there in all his pants-less glory. Shameless...

What might have gone wrong? Also, is there supposed to be that much string hanging out of his neck? ^^;

Also, a bit OT, but I didn't want to flood this section with threads...Evann's new eyes from Dreaming Tree Studios arrived last week. I got her Oceana and Ivy (and Mahogany and Autumn for my boy- plus a free pair of Raisin! Sweet!) I tried them both on, but liked how clear the Oceana looked with her hair:

Yay fantastic new body, grats! His feet look.. interesting, is the socket actually in the bottom of the leg?
A hobby isn't supposed to leave you wistful, regretful and vaguely disappointed. BJD collecting is as customizable as the dolls themselves. Do whatever pleases you the most, because otherwise, why do it at all? All for the 'Gram Bitches love the 'Gram.

Thanks! X} His feet are a little weird...the socket's in the leg, but the "ball-joint" ankle is actually molded as part of the foot. Not sure I like that, but I'll find out when I string him tighter and see how he stands. :P

I love the Mirodoll body! Congrats~ I'm interested to see how a Loongsoul head will look on the body, that sounds like a fantastic combo.

Congratulations! If all you need to do is tighten the elastic there's no need to completely restring him. It's much easier if you have someone to help you out though. Basically you just pull on the elastic until it's as taught as you want it and then tie a new knot. Do the arms first though. Once you tighten the rest of the body it's much harder to get into the torso.

Thanks so much you guys! He is an SD and I definitely will post lots of pics once I get his head and get him all together...and I do mean together...I was messing around with his strings, trying to figure out what went to where, and I LOST A STRING. ;_; As soon as that happened, his body started doing this weird stretchy thing, and before I could get him on my lap, there went his feet and legs and hip joints. Then his stomach and hips, and the S-hook fell out. All in a matter of seconds. Oh man, it was such a disaster.... ;P
So now the poor guy's in pieces, and here I was trying to avoid doing this very thing; restringing. Heh, now I have no choice but to learn how, and to pick up some tools (would just the forceps work, or should I get pliers, too? I'll have to check out those tutorials for sure) The only bad thing is finding the time to do this; between work and school and family stuff, I hardly have any free time anymore. >_<

haha I don't use forceps... or anything really. I have two long, tied loops of ribbon, and a couple sticks to hold the strings once there is tension. I can do a video for you, if you'd like.
