Forceps are very helpful (especially if you're doing it alone) but not necessary. I've never used pliers.

@OkamiKodomo: Could you? That would be so awesome! I've got ribbon and might have some chopsticks around somewhere (lots of pencils, too, if those will work?) so that seems like a really good method. Thank you so much; I really appreciate it!

@famedglory: My sister says she might have some laying around that I could use if I needed to; I've seen a couple restring tutorials where they use them and they seem really helpful. I'm just wondering if it's a long process, because I don't have much time to work with. :?

@absynthe1972: Thanks! Yeah, turns out he was a little more muscular than I thought, which suits me just fine. If they're gonna make a man doll, he should look like one, darn it!

@Evelien : I just hope he still looks as good with his new head... They've already shipped that, too, so I should have it soon. So excited right now! I just hope I can find the time to put him together and do his faceup!

Sure thing! Haha, I usually use chopsticks or paintbrushes, or I have this pair of tweezers that broke in half, and since they fit in my "doll box" I use those. I have to restring my newest resinsoul anyway! It takes me about 15 minutes to restring a double jointed doll, depending on if I drop a string and have to re-do it... No idea if this is a long or short time compared to anyone else, just how long it takes me. XD

EDIT: Ok, so the video itself is a little over 17 minutes. I did in fact lost a string once.... Now, this is not the only way to restring, and it's probably not even the right way... I see lots of people put the knot in the head, for instance... but this is how I've restrung my 4 dolls, and how my friend Sammy (chiennejin on DoA) taught me how to do it, and it works for me. She is also the voice you hear in the background. XD Note, I actually restrung her arms a little too tight, so I'll have to re-do that part with some bigger elastic. Guest appearances by my puppies, Sasha (the big black one) and Ifrit (the skinny blond puppy; he actually belongs to my old roommate and we're trying to re-home him)... the third puppy is sleeping in a corner, and not being a nuisance. So without further ado

The first time I restrung Taavi it took me over two hours. The second time I did it in under ten minutes. So...really depends.

That ^ All the way.

The first time I had to restring Viv it took me FOREVER. I mean FOREVER. Hours of sitting on my floor getting frustrated. Now I just take her apart whenever I feel like it, essentially. :D and it takes no time at all.

@OkamiKodomo: Thank you so much! You made it look so easy... My boy doesn't have those cool hooks in his hands and feet, but little hole-things, so I guess I don't tie off until he's together; but I really think I'll be able to do it now based on your tutorial. XD I noticed all the string ends were hanging out of the open end of his neck before he fell apart, so I think I get it now. Might take me a while, but once I get him done, I'll be able to restring my girl, who's been needing it badly since I got her. Thanks again! (By the way, your puppies are so adorable!! Is Ifrit named after the Final Fantasy character? That is such a cool name for a dog. <3)

@famedglory & Lexagon: So it's just a matter of knowing where things go and not feeling like it's a really daunting task then, huh? I feel better knowing that first time restringing takes time for other people, too, though! For me, this is like the final frontier of customization...unless I ever decide to try heavy modifications, which never really crossed my mind...yet. XP

I really wanted to try it tonight, but right now, his chest and arms (which are still loosely attached) are part of a still life setup that I'm using for drawing class homework. If I move him, I'll have to start over, and I already put about 2 hours into that drawing. >_< I should have picked something else to add to the setup, but he just looked so interesting in it... XP Hopefully, I'll get time in a couple of days!

Lol yes, specifically the FFX version haha. The third puppy is Kiba, named after the character from Wolf's Rain.
