Face Up question

Postby Wardah » Fri Sep 30, 2011 8:14 pm

Is it possible repaint a modern doll to have that retro look like 50's Barbies have. I was wondering since I like the faces on those Disney Princess Designer Collection dolls but I will never be able to afford them and anyways I have an idea for them with retro pin-up style outfits instead. If it is possible is there anyone out there who does them or would I be stuck figuring out how to do it myself?

I remember seeing an actual Barbie like that before... finally found it!

If you're looking for someone to do a repaint like that for you you could try asking people who restore vintage dolls.
Where did all these 1/6s come from?!

Those are just some of the ones avail on http://www.Barbiecollector.com And you could always steal their heads and put them on a Fashionista body or something. :D

I was looking to give the cheap playline Disney Princesses that retro flair so Babs wouldn't quite work.

And that's what I get for reading this thread at 6 am. Sorry missed the part about the Disney Princess face. >.<;

Yes, it's possible, look at all of KD's dolls. Almost all of his dolls have a vintage feel to them.

Really, you can paint your doll anyway you like, it's just a matter of imagination. ;)

Most of KD's recent repaints have a more "vintage Japanese" look to them than a 50s retro. I guess I was just wondering if there was anything special about the old molds or if it can be done with current molds. It doesn't help that I have not seen any comparison pics with the Designer Princesses to know if they have different molds from the regular Disney Store dolls or not.

Well, does the Barbie I posted look sufficiently retro? That face mold is from the 90s and one of the most generic/commonly used molds around. I think you could easily get away with that sort of paint on a playline Princess. The only thing you might consider is getting rid of the grins, which is easy. Just cut out the teeth with an exacto knife (or something similar) and superglue the mouth shut.
