Claire's Big uh... Martini

Postby Geektopian » Thu Oct 20, 2011 3:24 pm

I had a bit of time to kill this afternoon so I decided to update Claire's Big World with a new post. Has it been a month already (yep, almost!) and will there ever be anything not booze-related (not today!)? Anyway, I ended up with a couple of decent shots of Claire standing next to a "giant" martini glass (6 times larger than normal size!) and this is the one I didn't use on the blog.

That's just ice water in the glass, BTW. As a general rule, I don't drink alcohol during the day (maybe an occasional beer or glass of wine with a meal on weekends), I'm out of clear spirits at the moment and I wouldn't waste them on a photo session anyway.

If you read the blog, I'm trying to flesh out the "back story" a bit more and give you a bit of insight into the society and culture of Claire's home country. Hopefully, before too long, you'll understand why they are considered a "pariah state" and maybe even learn to hate them as much as most of the rest of the world does!

@ Dee Dee: Yes, Claire's home country is named after a famous hill in your home town. So is the neighboring country to the west.

That glass is big enough to put Claire in it and shoot her in a classical pin up pose XD (at least it that's I will have do with my dolls, but maybe I'm a little obsessed with this :? )
I totally support you in the proposal of enlight the back story, I found it really interesting (and not only because I've just changed my clothes as Claire done, Rome is under a terrible shower -_-)

That much martini in one glass is more than enough to knock a doll out.

You know, it never even occurred to me to do that traditional pin up pose. For the sake of the story, we'll say that the owner of the glass was concerned about safety and wouldn't allow her to do that. In reality, this was a "spur of the moment" idea that happened (oddly enough) while I was washing some stemware. I was kind of setting this photo shoot up as time allowed, so I have to admit that I didn't get very creative with posing.

It would kick my butt a bit, too! Most of "Claire's" martini recipes make a 4 oz. (US) drink, while "her" version of the Vesper is around 5 oz. A few big distilleries do an "American market" gin that is around 95 proof, which is what I typically use, rather than the standard 80 proof- 40% alcohol. Some Vesper recipes also call for a 100 proof (50% alcohol) vodka -which I haven't used, so far- so one of these drinks can send you to "La La Land" for the whole evening! (Or maybe I'm just a lightweight drinker?)

They were distracting. They kept dancing around with happy looks on their faces and wouldn't sit still, so I made them get out of the shots I used! ;)

You know, I think I have one of those promotional giant martini-style glasses from TGIFriday's that an MSD would fit in. I should go find it.

EDIT: I do indeed have that giant martini glass. After washing off the accumulation of dust from being in the back of the cabinet, an MSD doll does indeed fit.

Thank you Mlatch for inspiring this random ha-ha of my day. XDD Maybe I'll get around to doing a proper photoshoot with it, and making an actual pin-up poster.
