I'm guessing that this person is just selling the dolls for someone else, and that is why they know nothing about them, but I did want to post this here just in case if any of these molds have been reported stolen.

I thought there was a thread somewhere on DoA for stolen dolls, I was going to check myself before posting this here, but did a search and nothing came up?

I just know that there have been many stolen cases, and wanted to let others know, in case they spotted someone elses doll.

I am not saying that they are a thief, I just found it odd that there were so many from the same person who knew nothing about them.

I just contacted the seller about that yesterday since it seemed a little strange that she was selling so many BJD and knew so little about them. The seller got back with me and said that she had purchased them all at an auction a while back because her mother was/is a doll collector. Still seems a little weird, but I'll give her the benefit of the doubt...it would seem just as odd if someone managed to get their hands on THAT many stolen BJD too so...who knows lol

If that story is true, it makes me wonder why the previous owner would sell them in an auction, instead of on the internet which would have a better customer base. So I would think that the previous owner died, and the family members sold them in an auction house. Which... I wouldn't want to bid for them, because my luck I'd end up with the owner's favorite one and it be haunted. @___@

I think there are legitimate reasons for a seller to have a bunch of dolls and not know that much about them. If I died tomorrow, soon my daughter (not being a dollieh person at all) would be selling mine on eBay. Knowing ZIP squat about bjd's, I shudder to think what her listings might sound like...

A friend of mine has all her dolls insured and documented, which is a good idea in any case (hers are protected against theft, damage from natural disaster/accidents, etc). But just having a little notebook somewhere with a list of your doll's sculpt name and original price somewhere your family could find would probably work fairly well. You could even stick a photo in each page of the doll. They even sell a book specifically for documenting doll collections at Barnes and Noble with simple fill-in-the-blank sections for a photo, name, company, condition, original accessories/clothing, etc. Its for vintage and fashion dolls, but you could use it for BJDs and such pretty easily I think.

I was thinking of insuring mine now that I'm up to such a high number. it wouldn't be that much extra on the house insurance. I mean, my engagement diamond is insured. I might as well insure the dolls, they're my next-biggest investment.
