Doll Wigs LIke This?

I've been looking at these wigs and also at the ones for Evangeline Wilde and really wishing I could find something a bit cheaper in this color for my Tonners. $25 and up for a doll wig is a bit much for me but I really love this color red, also carrot red. I can't seem to find much in these colors that's not really, really expensive though. Anyone know anyone who makes doll wigs for less? Even the Monique wigs are $20 now most of them. It's getting a bit too rich for me. I hate having to use Liv/Moxie doll wigs all the time but it's getting to the point where that's all I can afford.

Unfortunately they just don't make them in flaming or carrot red anyhow. If they did I'd probably buy 5 if I could find them just like I did the copper pony tail one they just did. I literally went to every store around here locally and bought every one I saw because that was one versatile (and cheap) little copper wig and I wanted multiple backups, lol. So far they've only done a couple of copper ones and one rocker red one, that's basically been it. No flame, no carrot, nothing more interesting.

I've tried making them but I'm not really all that great at wefting so far.

To be honest, your best bet will be the second-hand market. The problem is, the biggest second-hand market is Den of Angels and you have to have a specific number of posts before you can shop there AND you pretty much can't talk about any of the dolls that I think you collect (they are very Off Topic Strict).

There may be markets for second-hand items for those specific dolls, but I'm not familiar with them.

Junkyspot does carry some wigs, and they are not super high-priced, but I'm not sure if he has anything like that in stock.

Have you check Kemper? http://www.kemperdolls.com/index.php They often have non-bjd size wigs.

I haven't had much luck with either the second hand market or Kemper. The people that have red wigs tend to keep them and Kemper I never see anything red in the 5-6 range. I've tried Jpop and Junky, but again the prices tend to be a bit steep for me. I've managed to steal a few mohair ones off of old porcelains that I find cheap, but carrot and flame dolls tend to be few and far between and I actually prefer the synthetic wigs for my Tonners. I like the shine of the synthetic wigs. I tried wefting with extensions like this video I found on You Tube but that video is for real human wigs I'm finding it very difficult to make a wig that's fashion doll sized. I wish the Yaki braids and such came already wefted. I can get 50 shades of Kanekalon hair at the beauty supply store but actually making a wig out of them is much tougher than I thought it would be.

Then again I haven't tried it on my new Janome yet. My folks got me a non-computerized Janome machine and I'm learning to sew on it as I type. It's a whole other world compared to trying to learn on an old Singer. I had one for a while but I never could get it to work very well. The tension was always off no matter what settings I used or how many times I got it fixed. My Mom is getting a Janome too, for Christmas. I think she's going to love it. I may not quite know how to use it yet, but so far I love mine to pieces! It's easy to thread and it stitches like a wonder.

So far I've managed a lot of straight stitched stuff. I'm making bags, pillows, curtains, camera covers for my camera straps, camera bag inserts, but nothing too complicated. I'm just now starting to play with patterns, trying to make doll clothes that look halfway decent. (Maybe one day I'll get to making clothes from patterns and stuff for me too? But first more wardrobe for the dolls, of course!)

I have made some things sans patterns, but I'm really teaching myself to sew from books and I just haven't gotten too sophisticated yet in terms of projects. Up till now I've been doing very simple things for them like making sweats and doing skirts with elastic waists and stuff so I didn't have to fool around with patterns and darts, but this week I made my first tailored velvet 16" doll skirt complete with waist darts and while it's not exactly Chanel it's wearable and I am proud of myself. Next one is going to be lined and made out of wool. After that I may try a pair of guy's pants that doesn't have a drawstring!

I guess I could see what the Janome does with making a weft. Maybe I can get to the point of making my own wigs?

Oh, trying to find a proper red wig, I share your pain. If you're interested in trying to make your own wig but want to skip making wefts (homg, I haaate it!), Pupapa sells nice wefted synthetic hair. They offer airmail, so even though it's coming from China, shipping isn't too bad.

I may resort to that, thanks for all the links. I've been thinking about trying to dye several Sophie very blond doll wigs that I have. I have a bunch left over from buying some Sophie and Hayden dolls at a steep discount earlier this year. Our Target marked the dance dolls down to like $6. I'm crazy about using their bodies for swaps and anytime I can get a bunch cheap like that I usually will go for it particularly when it's Hayden or Sophie because I have a lot of light skinned dolls I've been wanting to re-body.

At $6 I bought every darned one they had for Barbie body swaps, the tights, and to get more of the shoes I liked and wanted to paint up in different colors. As a result I have tons of the wigs and several sets of certain party dresses. They're a bunch of nice wigs, nice and thick, but I'm not much into platinum blond anyway.

You can do it with acrylic paint or fabric dye or sharpies if you're into being lazy and I'm thinking I may try the acrylic paint method see what shades of red and orange I can dream up. I may paint dye them first to get a flat dye effect, then sharpie in more highlights, I think. I've done that on ultra blond barbies and it worked fairly well actually. It's not as shiny as a $20 wig but then again it won't cost me much to try either.

I want to try doing one up lime green and maybe another turquoise too. I've been wanting that one lime wig and the turquoise that they did first run for a long time but they have yet to ever make another one of either that I know of. They've made every shade of purple and pink out there, and they've done several sky blue and darker blue wigs now but they have yet to do much with lime, peach, or turquoise blue. Or flame, dark auburn, other reds. They're actually on their third copper/brown mix at this point and while I don't mind that I'm really wanting some stronger reds and oranges. I'd love to see a flame orange and lime mix actually and I'm thinking I may do that as one of my projects.

Okay, back to bed. I only got online this late because I fell asleep on the couch watching old horror movies and my cat woke me up to get fed and I couldn't get back to sleep. I'm getting sleepy again though and I don't really need to be up a 4AM even if it is Sunday, lol.

The wig I got is the very short one, it's syn mohair but it's very nice.
